I've been throwing knives for a good 2 or 3 months and have gotten pretty good, being able to consistently and accurately stick half turn, one turn, and one and a half turn throws. I was thinking of throwing tomahawks now too and was gonna pick up a CS Frontier Hawk.

I've seen guys throwing hawks with a standard grip (head facing target), and videos of guys throwing with the head facing them..so I was wondering if there was any significant difference between the two, and if throwing a hawk is much different from throwing a knife.

And if the Frontier Hawk is a good throwing hawk.

I just started throwing a hawk myself, and am not particularly good yet. If the hawk has a spike on the one side, turning the blade to face back you will get a spike first hit. I don't think this is what you are mean but it is what I have tried.

Rich S is right head facing depends on distance. And a frontier hwak is a serviceable thrower. But for beginners I recomend on with the blade flareing up to a point. This will help you stick the hawk. And I would recomend useing a good target. Trees are hard to consitently stick due to the bark breaking off. I use a stand built from on old stump that i pulled and layed on its side they hold up really good to the advanced damage of a hawk.
