Hello I'm new here. Been trying to make knives for about four years now. Anyway this is my second thrower(although I don't know nothing about throwing knives) it's 440c and Paper based micarta. 8.75" long.

Guess it looks more like a dagger, what ya think?

Looks very nice, but you are right, it looks more like a dagger.

Best Regards,

the handle looks like it would be awkward to throw from. Pretty neat looking dagger though

Wow! You did a grrrreat job! I'd like to carry that one for concealed carry. :D
Great dagger, for sure, even though it's a thrower. :)

That's a very nice dagger, but it has some drawbacks as a practical throwing knife (is there really such a thing as a practical throwing knife?).

With a double-edged blade you pretty much need to hold the handle rather than the blade when you throw. I have cut my fingers trying to violate this rule. When you throw from the handle you don't want any lumps or bulges at the butt end of the handle. You want the handle to slip straight through your grip when you relax it. So the first problem with your design is the way the handle flairs out at the butt end.

The other issue is that throwing a knife is extremely hard on the tip of the blade (well it is tough on the whole knife including the handle) and requires tough steel. 440C tends to be brittle for a throwing knife. You need to run the knife very soft if you are using a stainless steel so I would suggest something softer and simpler. If you ran Sandvic 12C26 or AUS-4 down in the low 50's it might survive a lot better. I would pick 440A over 440C for example. In general a straight carbon steel like 1050 or 1075 hardened to the low 50's might be a better choice. Another good candidate would be 5160. You might want a fiber micarta for toughness. You might kind of make your own by wrapping the handle with a strong cord and soaking it with a tough polymer adhesive.
