Hey guys need some help here.Actualy "I" need lots but the folder im trying to put together needs a little bit.K here we go.I bought a Darrel Ralph folder kit from Koval knives.BTW Darrel nice design!Im not happy with the finish on the balde,so I want to give it a hand finish.I cant get the thumb stud off.Its one of them right/left handed stud combos. Are they glued/threaded?I know im gona end up damaging them removing em.I havn`t tried using heat yet and I dont know what im gona use to grip the stud to turn it.Pliers will just destroy them.Any ideas ?
Thanks,

Did you try contacting Darrel or Koval's about this?

One way to turn the stud with pliers without chewin it up is to glue some leather pads on the jaws on your vice grips. I did this along time ago and it makes all the difference in the world. If you do end up breaking it, you can buy em from all the knife supply outfits.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

I use archery nocking pliers - they are made of mild steel and have one or two round notches cut into them. I haven't marred up any thumb studs with them yet. I think you bow hunt so you must have some of these laying around.

Worse case drill a pair of cheap pliers with a notch in them.

Well thx for the help guys.I did manage to remove them buy using a slightly larger drill bit.I dont recall the size but I didn`t have a .059 bit handy.I took the larger one and just drilled out the existing hole and gave it a turn counter clockwise.Worked out just fine.
Thanks for the help guys,
