I have a cheap Cold Sttel Frontier Hawk that I need to tighten up. Do you guys ever soak the haft in water before inserting it. I've also read about using linseed oil for this purpose. I'd like your opinions and experiences. Thanks.

Water will just dry out again and is thus just a tempory solution, the oil is much more stable. You can also wedge the head as with axes but because of the dual tapered of toamhawk heads this isn't a neat solution. The best solution is to get a proper handle taper in the first place which may mean getting a new handle.

Two solutions that I have found. One, put a piece of 550 cord in the hole of the head of the 'hawk, so that there is some pressure between the head and the handle. I wrap the first 4 inches or so of the handle with 550, so there is actually the loop of the cord in the hole, and I wrap down from the head. This gives me a comfortable handle for fine work and keeps the head tight.

Second, try to work a piece of leather on the handle, about where the head will sit. Once the leather dries out, you'll have to pound the head back on to tighten it up, but it probably won't move after that.

You could always try gorilla glue or J.B. Weld. If you don't understand what I'm saying, e-mail me and I'll send a picture.

I am not very knowledgeable in the 'Hawk arena.

But I have used a lot of hammers in my life.
A loose hammer head is easaly fixed by soalking the head and haft in a bucket of radiator antie-freaze.
Its kept quite a few of my hammers working...*might/should* work for tomahawks.
Plus it cheap:)
