hey everyone i am new on this forum and i am tryin to get more seriously into collecting blades. i have found a cool looking bowie knife on ebay that i am interested in purchasing. mostly just because it looks cool but i don't like poor quality knives and it is pretty cheap. the knife i am referring to is the Timber Rattler big green bowie, i am just wondering if any body has any to say about this knife (positive or negative) and i was also wondering if any body knows the width of the blade thanks i hope somebody can help.

Welcome to Bladeforums. I hope someone comes along that knows more about your knife.

Just from a quick Google search, it looks like it'll probably be lower grade stainless (which would mean easy to sharpen, but not so great at holding an edge). Seems to be Pakistan made. Still, I see them listed online for $16, and the knife has pretty nice lines. If you like the looks, it seems like it would be an okay beater for the money.

With utility and edge holding in mind, however, I'd probably save my cash and go for something like a Becker BK-9 Combat Bowie.

hey thanks for responding so quick. i figured it wasn't the greatest quality knife and i realized that the steel wasn't the hardest and won't hold an edge as well as i would like. i have knives that i actually use and was thinking more that this would just be a cool lookin shelf knife but i had read a couple reviews from people who said they were really impressed with the way the knife handled. i just figured i would find a more accurate review of the knife here from someone who actually knows what they're talkin about and not some yahoo who doesn't know one knife from the next. again thanks for responding and i appreciate the fact that you actually looked it up so you knew what you were talking about before replying. your input was helpful.

I saw good reviews at Amazon and at BudK, but I took them with a grain of salt. Heck, for $16, give it a shot. If it's only for a shelf, what difference does the steel make?

thats what i figured, the price was right for a shelf ornament!

and thanks for the welcome DennisStrickland! i've certainly enjoyed just lookin around the forum, lots of interesting and helpful information!

Hope this is still of some use to you:
I actually bought it last year, thinking exactly the same: "$16! It's a good looking knife, why not?". I was right, too. It's not too bad if you actually want to use it, but it makes a better ornament than knife. Still, $16 for a really cool looking bowie is a good price. I didn't regret it

By the way, they have more knives like these. I also have the blue version of this one (slightly different though, besides the colour), and the blue skinner knife. The blue skinner is actually a good knife for real work.

cool I'll take a look at those. like I said i have good user knives and was just kinda lookin for a cool decoration and i thought this just hit the spot!

I was just wondering if it's full tang or not? I got one of those knives just to have something to beat on. I was just wondering what kind of quality it is.
