I got a Root Canal on Thursday...

Am headed to the dentist tomorrow for a Crown...

And am scheduled for another Root Canal this week and another Crown the following week!

Surely somebody can do better than that!!!

Though, admittedly, going to the Dentist/Oral Surgeon ALWAYS SUCKS!!!

Gum graft. Worst pain I ever had in my mouth. They numb you, then they cut a piece of gum out of your palate and suture it ... somewhere. So when you can feel again, the pain is in 2 different areas. I got that twice.

But see the bright side... at least you have teeth.

Well, I've had the same girlfriend for the past....jeez, years...and I love her, she's great - but she's not a millionaire!

I always thought I'd marry rich! :D

I can sympathize with the gum graft, and the crown for that matter, but what makes my gum graft worse is that I needed to have it done to fix my gums after my big brother hit me in the mouth with a pipe! Gum grafts SUCK!!! Well, as Dan said any trip to the oral surgeon sucks.

My step-son works for an auto dealer in the parts department. Could be the parts manager if he would retire but that's OT.

Last Tuesday he was carrying a cardboard box that houses a sheet metal skin for a door. There are handles cut into the cardboard box to make it easier to move around. The bottom of the box gave out which allowed the skin to slip and slide. Result: right index finger sliced about two inches length, with two short down cuts also. He was able to get the blood stopped with sure clot or something like that but then had to go to the ER for stiches and sit still while they scrubbed it out. He might be able to get the stiches out today. I told him we should post pics to compare to the knife maker's wounds.

Root canals, oral surgery, etc. should be almost painless if done correctly, though there can be some minor pain for a few days during recovery. I've had root canals, and had my gums peeled back by an oral surgeon so the bone could be ground down, and it was a piece of cake. One's experience probably depends on the skill of the practitioner. My dentist does this little trick where he grabs the inside of your cheek (the one on your face!) and jiggles it (somewhat aggressively) while shooting you up with novacaine, and you the shot is virtually painless. Its amazing. JMO.

101 in Coastal Alabama.... heat index 116 ...... work 10-12 hours out in it ....:eek:
Kinda wears one out........... :D

powernoodle - I agree...the operation itself was fairly low on the pain scale. It's the build-up (tooth pain, abcess) and recovery (jaw stiffness, no "crunchy" foods, chewing on one side) that sucks...

There is a good side, I guess...I've lost 5 lbs on my liquid diet!

*groan*

That will be back as soon as you get back to normal food. When I had a jaw surgery, I lost 35 pounds :S (wich brought me UNDER the 100lbs bar).

It got back quite fast.

Sorry to hear it, broke a 1mm by4mm chunk out of the back of a front bottom tooth last week flossing. Dentist on wednesday, fishing friday to console myself.

Just got back from the Dentist a few minutes ago.....*groan*

My wallet hurts more than my tooth does, though. :(

Occipital neuralgia for ~5.5 years. Imagine the worst headache you could ever have, now stretch it out to last years. Add in the nausea and my < 3 month old son with cowlick and we have the makings of a wonderful life.

Oooh. Babies with colic have to be the worst. Look on the bright side Iamtoast, in a few months, you won't remember the hard times your son is giving you now. Sleep deprivation is wonderful that way. My wife and I are lucky, our son was a little angel at that age- but it was still hard.

I have sympathy for anyone having dental woes. I've had more than my fair share. Several years ago I broke my jaw in two places, pulverizing all of my rear teeth in the process. It hurt. I had my jaw wired shut for three months- and lost 40 pounds. When I finally got my jaw unwired, I had several months of dental surgery to look forward to, and my teeth have never been the same.

My Uncle just got laid off from a company that has 33 years of his sweat, that sucks. My wife and kids left yesterday for Colorado for 3 weeks, will miss them. Wait a minute, time to brew some beer, get in some golf, and some kick back time

Cheers,

Dan

Lost my business of 23 years, son is without a job as a result. No money to go to dentist.
