What type of cutters (end mills) would be best for machining titanium? I'm guessing carbide but any help on speeds and feeds would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mer

A friend uses a shell cutter, with round carbide inserts, says they work best. The speeds he cuts at are 75-80rpm, very slow, like Ferret said.

Use coolant, 130-200 sfm .0005 chip load per tooth.
No or than 1/2 the cutter diameter depths of cut.
Carbide cutters ti coated.

I buy cheap carbide end mills and basically run them slow and dry. I dont have a coolant system on my mini mill but it would come in handy if I did!

BTW Mer, your right in my neck of the woods so to speak. :)
