While back at the pct at the end of shift, I had that sudden flash and realized that I am now the victim of the evil knife gremlins. I reached down to my weak side pocket and realized that my Microtech Scarab (Covert Executive) was GONE.

I drove back to all the places that I had been at today and was unsuccessful. Like I said, a sad day.

Now if I happen across anybody with my knife (cause I know it's serial number) I am going to ensure that they have the option to return it or go to jail.

Well I guess I have reason to get the new D/E Scarab, hopefully it's an covert Executive.

Go to jail for finding your knife? I don't think so.

Remember the old saying: Finders....keepers,etc. :(

OCGA 16-8-6.
A person commits the offense of theft of lost or mislaid property when he comes into control of property that he knows or learns to have been lost or mislaid and appropriates the property to his own use without first taking reasonable measures to restore the property to the owner.

http://www.legis.state.ga.us/cgi-bin/gl_codes_detail.pl?code=16-8-6

That why I stated that I would give them the option to give it back....

This seems less balisong-related, so I'll move it here for broader exposure.

That being the case..........

The next time I find a $10 bill on the ground, I guess I'll have to post what I found on the post office bulletin board, (or some place else in town)
along w/ my phone #, so the person that lost it.....can claim it.

Also, I guess the onus will be on me for finding it; rather than someone else for losing it. That seems to make perfect sense.......in today's world.

You do realize, of course, that the odds of you coming across the person that found your knife are really remote at best.

I'm sorry about your loss. :(

Maybe the next one will be even better than the lost one.

Anybody who finds something valuable and makes NO effort to return it to its rightful owner is a thief in my book. Say if you find a $350 knife in the supermarket parking lot, and quietly slip it into your pocket and go home - then you are a thief, and I don't care what the law says about it. An honest, honorable person would report to the customer service desk or manager that you found a knife, and tell them "if someone calls looking for it here is my number".

Anyone who lives by a standard of behaviour defined by the legal required minimum is not an honorable person.

A true fool thinks that they will never have to come to terms with their actions, either in this world or the next.

Pick it up you're definately a thief...but then again gear adrift is a gift... :p

You also have to look at the fact that the majority of the public won't think OOH a Microtech Scarab, that thing costs a pretty penny, better return it. All the sheeple are going to think is somebody dropped their pretty pocket knife, oh well can't be worth that much, and IN to the pocket it goes. I wish you the best of luck in finding it but I'm afraid you may be up the well known creek. Truly sorry for your loss. :(

I would make a very big effort to return it to the owner... I once found a diamond and ruby tennis bracelet on the floor of my supermarket... I could have walked off with a VERY expensive item... but I found the owner... and it made me feel good. However most people dont have any integrity or values anymore.... so dont hold your breath to find your knife man :( Todays world makes me want to vomit sometimes... :barf:

Ahhh... That sucks.... Like Marcelo said though , did you check those places ? I 'lost' my Surefire a few weeks ago and got frantic , looked everywhere , cursed , looked everywhere , cursed and finally found it tucked safely in between my seat and backrest in my truck. :o

Sorry you lost it but quit trying to blame somebody else. Unless you had your name engraved on it there is nothing reasonable that the average citizen could do. Now suck it up and take responsibility for your own carelessness and/or bad luck, depending on how you choose to define it.

On the floor beside the toilet.
In the kitchen where you made your lunch.
Next to where you parked.
Under the passanger seat.

Yesterday's pants?
Jacket pocket?
Gear bag?
Between seat and door?

Good luck - I feell your pain.

Jeremy

Did you check with store owners in the area and the police? I have observed that when there is a lost knife on the ground most people will look at it and pass it by. Then someone concerned may pass by and pick it up and turn it into the police or the nearest store or just throw it away so no kids will find it.

Everytime I lost one of my knives it was in the car or house. At least so far.

Were you carrying it via clip or pouch? I won't use the clip any more because sooner or later my upper leg will force the knife right out of my jeans pocket, and I'm not a pound overweight.

I've learned the hard way, (I've lost a couple over the years) so I bought myself a well-made leather belt pouch with a strong snap on the flap and I don't have to worry about losing it anymore! ;)

Dude, I never blamed anyone, I realize its my bad and my loss. Now I am stating a fact that if during my patrol duties I find my knife on somebody, I'll give them the opportunity to give it back. If not, arrest is my next course of action. As for the knife being engraved, it has a serial number and I have the original bill of sale and packaging wi/ serial number.

I also realize that this knife is gone and that the odds is so remote that I will ever see it again. Then again I did happen to get the a random accident call that turned out to be an DUI arrest on the person who did a bad job for my wedding reception.

Not at all, just stating a fact. Read my past posts in BFs before passing judgement. That said, this post is closed for me.

A very smart move on your part osifer........cut-n-run!

Don't look now, but your attitude is showing! :barf:
