Major new guy here....I have totally fell in love with the HI 16.5" Chiruwa Ang Khola. I keep going back between a khuk or a tomahawk as a chopper/survival tool.....

Seems like I can do more with a khuk.....build shelters, quarter game...

Seems to me that a hatchet or hawk only pulls ahead a bit when the wood is 8" or more in diameter....

What should I buy, an HI khukri or an H&B Forge hawk?

I also carry a grohmann with a 5.5" blade for game and small chore uses....

That would indeed be an excellent combination, I would have said folding saw too until I recently saw a very small swede saw, now I would carry that over a folding saw. Though it isn't as packable, it has much better cutting ability and far less clogging than any folding saw I have seen.

I have three HI kukris and one H&B tomahawk, the kukris are definately higher quality. That is a bit of a double edged sword though, the kukris are almost too nice to use to their potential. Also any tomahawk will have more power for a given weight, though the kukri's edge length and forward curve largely make up for this. The HI kukris are also differentially hardened, with a harder edge. The main thing I don't like about the HIs is that some of mine have formed gaps between the handle and buttcap from handle shrinkage. As tough as the kukris are I trust the tomahawk more because there is so little that can go wrong with it, and it is so simply repaired.
