This is a throwing spike I just made from O1 tool steel, for the 2001 World knife throwing championship in Phoenix next week. 12" long, 1/2" round stock. Free hand grind. (Balanced on an 1/8" drill bit)
I plan on blueing these. I need to know how to get a reliable 45-50rc on this steel if someone knows

Quench in oil, 500 to 550 deg temper. Blue color to dark people should be good.

Throwing exerts a surprising amount of stresses on a spike or knife, annealed steel will bend without too much difficulty. I believe he said his were 12" long...I've got some spikes I made of A2 that are only 9 inches long and 3/8" thick but have not heat treated...300 throws and I have about a 10 degree delineation in one. This was a while ago though

Neat spikes tho. I'd buy a set from ya if I could.

Shinryû.
