Dear Gadget folks,

Anyone had a closer look at the Tool Logic SL Survival Series folding knives? It looks good on paper and features some of the most interesting tools ever to be integrated on a folder. I curious as to where the knives are made.. Any takers on this query?

I played with one at a local knife shop. The liner lock seemed a bit thin and didn't lock up well. The knife itself is a handful, the pocket clip is wishful thinking...the package is too big to be carried comfortably that way. The LED flashlight is removable and pretty bright, though not as bright as my Photon II. I couldn't find the "waterproof storage" that is advertised. There was a small (and I mean small) space behind the flashlight, not very usable for anything. I also didn't try the whistle. The blade itself looks to be made from 440 or 420 stainless and is very usable, given the task this knife was designed for. It opens well with the thumb hole, but because of the size of the handle it is a bit akward. All in all I would rate the knife a 6 on a 1-10 scale. YMMV.

I had a chance to briefly check one out. Overall it has a neat gadget factor. Charlie is right about the liner lock being little thin, but the knife I handled did not have any play. The flashlight was adequate and the whistle was surprisingly loud. The clip didn't seem to fit well and I would probably just toss in my pocket instead of clipping it to my pocket. If you decide to carry it and people ask you why you are carrying a knife, just tell them you needed a whistle and a flashlight. I will probably get one in the future for the gadget factor. I may get the one with fire starter and throw it my BOB. I think the knife would have a lot more potential if they beefed up the liner lock and changed some of the ergonomics. Hope this helps.
