I have just come into some extra cash and was wondering what you guys think of buying a tormeck just for personal use on knives , mostly 4 inch blades.

I already own an Apex. Now if I got good whit this machine maybe I could make some extra cash.

Sorry to make rerun post, I did find Apex verses Tormeck in an old post.
Just looking for some opinions.

Thanks,
armilite

In my experience the Tormek is OK on larger bladed knives, like kitchen knives. I have found that the knife jigs don't work as well on small blades and it's hard/impossible to get a really low angle on small blades using the jig. You can sharpen small blades freehand, but after a few tries, now I usually just use the Tormek for tools and sharpen small knives by hand. 4" blades could work, or not, on the Tormek depending on the included angle you are trying for. I would see if you can try the Tormek with the blades you want to sharpen before you buy one. If you have woodworking tools to sharpen too, it's worth the money. Jet has also come out with a clone priced between the Grizzley and the Tormek.
