Hi All!

Not sure if this belongs at this forum, or Canadian Connection, but here goes:

A few days ago a friend of mine went to the local "House of Knives" (the one in Eaton Centre I believe) and after a chat with the salesman was told that carrying a folding knife (2" lockback) without a very good reason for doing so can get you into big trouble. Apparently carrying it to open envelopes, boxes and cutting apples does not qualify, or so he was told.

So my question is this, was my friend and/or salesman drunk, or is it really true? I mean, I researched the topic, and I don't think Canadian criminal code has something like that in it. Or does it?

If anyone has any insight, is a Toronto police officer, or was questioned about a knife, please let me know.
These news REALLY creep me out sometimes...

Thanks All! :D

Carrying a knife is okay in Canada but according to the law it is not supposed to be carried concealed. Either carry it in a sheath on the belt, clipped to the pocket or some other visible manner. Technically the law applies even to small jackknives and Swiss Army Knives.

They don't want people carrying knives for self defence in this country but any other reason is okay such as box cutting, peeling apples, as a work tool... I've seen many guys working on the railroad carry a Buck knife in a sheath.

There are some threads in this forum and even more in the Canadian Connection concerning our knife laws. Some of the threads will contain links to the actual laws.
