Well not "stole" as much as he very kindly lent me some in exchange for some of my own - a "pass back" I think we're calling it instead of a "pass around"

This is my first experience with Backwoods and KFU knives. I've seen a lot of pictures and stalked this forum before but never managed to land my hand on one. I'm very grateful and excited to get my first glimpse of them in person.

I'm trying (being the operative word) to build a dog house, that doesn't matter but it might explain some of the background in the pictures, spelling mistake and quality of said pictures are entirely my own fault.

Here are the knives:

Blackwoods HUnter, KFU Bushpic and KFU EDC Nessmuk. I'll like these sheaths a lot,, they are themselves highly crafted and feel tough and ready for use at the same time

I'm not the best at fuzz sticks as you can see but I can sure slim a stick and with the edge and grind on these it's made all the more easy

IMAG0047.JPG

After playing with sticks for a while I found the edges held very well, (FYI: this paper has been sitting in the barn for a while and so is slightly, not damp, but harder to slice anyway - didn' seem to be a problem.)

TPVT and I have been talking about this curve on the hunter, it's all personal preference and everything but I find it very helpful. It brings the edge down to the bottom of my hand so I can slice and cut easily on a flat surface without having to lift the butt in the air. I also enjoy the feel of this box elder and handle shape, it seems to lock into my hand and boy does the wood feel smooth.

Speaking of which the handle on the buspik is very comfortable and I liek the shape of the but, it's not just for looks I found out, the little point I guess, gives extra purchase when your really need it, I also like the look of these orange liners against the wood

I think TPVT said this was a mahogany handle, nice. I needed a pencil at one point so tried the edc, the shape of the blade is very useful for these close up small takss but t feels like such a solid knife as well for larger jobs. I decided to try that theory out...

ha, not really, I'm sure it could handle being used as a nail but wouldn't like to find out how quickly TPVT came make it to Kentucky to kick my ass.

Well thats it for now at least, thanks for checking it out, hope you enjoy the pictures at least.

I'd like to thank TPVT for being such a stand up guy, these are some great knives

Cool idea guys. It gives you the chance to see if each makers style fiys your needs. Thanks for sharing.

hey KYenglish! it has now become clear that whenever i get a new knife, i should just send it to you for pics and a review. nice job. and thanks for the kind words. enjoy!

Hey KYenglish, it doesn't surprise me about KFU or BA's knives. My son "borrowed" my one and only KFU knife to take camping last week-end. I don't even want to think about what that knife went thru on a week-end with 4 20-something "boys". Mat said he whacked, smacked, cut, chopped, sliced, and basically did everything but try and cut rocks with it. When he brought it back, the first thing I had to do was to get the 1/4" layer of mud off the sheath and knife. I got the sharpener out but decided to check it first and I could not believe after all the abuse Mat said he did to it, it still sliced notebook paper, and actually shaved it on the edges.
Both he & BA's knvies are truly named correctly . . . . . "User's" . . . . :)
Thanks for sharing and the posting the pics for us.
Be safe.

i said that exact same thing when i found out what KFU stands for, they really are, and yet wouldn't look out of a place in a display case either!

It's sure good to see the bushpik & nessie get used.

Not a problem, in fact if you have any other laying around you'd like to see used...:D

You should have been around when I tried to use BA's first knife he made for me. It took every ounce of will power I had just to even attempt to put that blade into a piece of wood. At the time it seemed almost a crime to get shavings and sawdust all over it. Now it is a faithful companion and rides along in my camping gear doing what it was intended to do. But oh that first time . . . . . ;)

I can understand that, painful :grumpy:, what knife is it?

We got out the other day but it was with the kids and didn't get much chance o do anything with these beauties
IMAG0078.JPG

Did stick them in a tree and take a picture, so, yeah...
The I decided we needed a diner that required some slicing for no other reason then I wanted to...
IMAG0082.JPG

Luckily I had some new kitchen knives to use

OF all of them I was most impressed with the KFU bushpick, true the backwoods wet through the met like it had offended it's mother, but you kind of expect that from a blade with this profile, I was happily validated my opinion, but the bushpick is a thicker stock and looks like it's be more at home going through a piece of wood then a stake, but it sliced just as well, the edc was a great little slicer to, impressive for a short stocky knife,
IMAG0092.JPG

Vegetables wen't about the same way, and again mushrooms can be difficult to slice stalk up because it moves around on you, only the edc had any trouble at all ad it ill produced nice thin slices, I have actually kitchen knives out of shot that can not handle this task as well,
IMAG0101.JPG

mushrooms, the real tough knife test, right?
IMAG0102.JPG

Surpassingly...none of the edges seemed in any way dulled from this hardy work out...:p

thanks,

:D

is the backwoods aldos 1095? could just be my imagination but i think it'd pick ua patina fast (which is just fine b me :p i like it) i wipe and clean 'em down after each use are there seems to be some signs of colouring on the hunter each time, ive bee keeping it off though for now
