Sal,
I sold a Civilian to a good customer today and he asked about a plastic "trainer" version of it. Is their such a thing?

Thanks gohmer

gohmer -- well, there is custom collaboration with TimmyTheTalkingToilet of an affordable Civilian with no blade...

(just kidding!)

Gohmer - James Keating and his crew is where I would check. They've had both plastic and wooden ones. There are also a few forumites that make wooden trainers.??

gohmer,

SHOMER-TEC has Civilian trainers. (360) 733-6214. I don't think that Keating and company make trainers any more.

If you would like me to make you one. Send me a photocopy or scan with a ruler next to it.
I'll make you one out of oak, manzanita, birch... or whatever else I have laying around. I don't have any good plastic right now. I can't match the weight, just the shape and size. If you like it we can trade something, if you don't like it...oh well no problem.
Email me if you want to more info

I have one of the Civilian trainers from Shomer Tec. It's a nice plastic copy, with the blade dulled-out in all the critical areas.
I can't remember what I paid for it (about a couple of years ago) so call them for the latest. They used to stock several trainer-models.

Didn't SpyderCo supply Eric Remmen with aluminum trainers for his specialty spidy back-up to the pistol stuff?

Maybe they are still available?

I'd like a folding Endura trainer myself.

Also some JKD schools have a plastic version of a Police.

Sochin - We made drones for Eric out of actual Delicas. they were reground (dulled) and made as safe as possible.

Current plan is to make a few Endura and Delica "Trainers" from non ground blades. Thick all the way around and drilled to balance weight. Probably an ugly color so they are not confused. We've had many requests for same from LEOs for training as well as some of the instructors and
Martial Bladecarft enthusiasts.

Will know more in a few months.

Titan, kababayan, naw I'm not into dulling.

Sal, you always surprise me. I'm used to knife company exec's being "ignorant" of knives used for other purposes.

Sal,

Will these be folding trainers? I'm gathering from your post that they will be... That would be spiffy

I just recently made a fixed Endura trainer out of aluminum with a cocobolo handle. I was surprised to get the weight/balance right since it is such a lightweight knife.

Seriously though, I wish more companies made trainers available. I know that it is probably not the most marketable thing out there, but I prefer my Endura trainer 10 times as much as those wooden knives in MA catalogs which usually look a little too phallic for my tastes anyways.

I've noticed my partner tends to take the drill more seriously as well, since it creates a slightly different mindset.

Smoke - I am ignorant.

..tm - My thoughts are not for major marketing. I think that would not be the best direction for us. We have been getting requests from LEOs, a number of teachers training LEOs, Some Martial bladecraft enthusiasts (that are really responsible citizens studying an "art" form like fencing) for well made, balance true, made right trainers..

Still early in the thought process so don't go off and "assume" anything. My thoughts are a special catalog for LEOs or some similar direction. I would rather not have every gang kind on every corner practising with our "trainers".
