Get Hands on With Gear During TAG Training

Reed Exhibitions and SG FIVE announce the launch of TAG (Training And Gear) Extreme Expo and Interactive Conference, the first international trade show and conference designed exclusively for the law enforcement, military, SAR and corporate security sectors. The inaugural event takes place on April 4 - 7, 2003, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mike Fuller and Mark Burnell of SG FIVE, a high intensity enforcement and protection training company, developed the TAG concept. “We found a huge void in the way trade and conference events were being done in this field,” said Burnell, a police officer with Idaho Falls SWAT. “It was time for our own community to step up to the plate and create exactly what we wanted – a focus on realistic training, married directly to T&E.” Fuller and Burnell took the TAG concept to Reed Exhibitions because it is a longstanding supporter of the military, law enforcement and SAR communities and is the world’s preeminent trade show and conference manager.

“TAG’s extremely timely theme is interagency and inter-operations coordination, from the command and control level to the line operator,” said Tom Fagan, Reed Exhibitions’ TAG Event Director. “Its unique format will bring together industry experts from different disciplines to share best practices and, through intensive real-world based training, TAG will allow attendees to test and evaluate the gear they need to get the job done.”

TAG has been in development for more than two years and was borne of discussions, T&E and training operations with law enforcement SWAT teams, military special operations units and SAR units worldwide. “Participants were vocal in their demand for more interagency and interdisciplinary training and the opportunity to test gear before they buy, in order to be sure they have the right equipment,” said Brian Jones, SG FIVE’s TAG attendee coordinator. “Gear manufacturers will put their products ‘up for the challenge’ in demonstrations, competitions and training exercises to prove their performance.”

“The TAG show is an idea that is long overdue,” said CJ Caracci, a former SEAL, tactical Police Officer, and trainer for TAG Extreme. “Let's face it, we are not talking about how to hang wallpaper here; we are talking about life and death issues. I want objective professionals to tell me why they like or dislike a product and what the relevant dynamics are that I need to know about. I’d better know how a gun shoots, how a knife cuts, how a harness feels. It's about time!”
