Howdy all,
I will be going to Boston and NYC this xmas and want to take my 4oz OC and a small folder. I cannot use the search feature here so I apologise if this has been asked. What should I limit my blade length too and any problems with the small pepper spray in either city? Does OC work on rats? just kidding.
As we will be walking around doing various touristy things and unable to stash a knife in the car a friend of mine had a suggestion. With the hightend security we now face it is tough to predict what one can take where. My friend suggested taking a padded, self-addressed stamped envelope along with postage enough for any items that one does not want the would be confiscators to have. If a guard decides your knife is better than his all you have to do is seal the knife in the envelope and drop it in a mail box. Your knife will be waiting for you when you get home and it has the extra added bonus that when you seal it up, anyone wanting to steal the contents of the envelope would be in violation of postal regs. Anyone try this?
Thanks in advance,
JB

Boston passed an ordinance limiting blade length to 2.5". I'm not suree about NYC. I have used the envelope a few times and it works well. (Usually when I bought a knife while travelling and didn't want to check my luggage.) Just make sure that the knife is wrapped so that it can't accidently open and cut a mail handler.

While I cannot speak to actual balde length I can tell you leave the pepper spray home..the local PD hates civis with it !..

I have worked and lived here all my life, in all those years i have NEVER been bothered by a local officer due to my knife.

They have either been on my belt or clipped in my pocket. I guess I do not look like a hoodlum carrying a switchblade so I do not get bothered.

I will tell you that many tourist attractions now have metal detectors and you can and will get pinched by them.

I was doing a job at a museum on 5th ave and they nailed my with my microtech socom. they kindly asked to hold it for me while i was there. Got the name of the security guy and **** supervisor and made them sign for it. I got it back when I left.

however, your mileage may vary be careful

If you visit the UN Building please remember that it is a foreign country. They get antsy about people carrying weapons there.

Federal buildings, the Empire State Building and others have metal detectors.
