(The old thread was too long so we will start again.)

The reservations are made and the tickets are in hand. Now, God willing and karma
permitting Pala, Yangdu and I will be headed to Nepal Feb. 2, 2000. Here is the plan.

We go Reno, Seattle, Narita, Bangkok. We will stop in Bangkok for three days to do
puja at the beautiful wats (Buddhist temples) to be found in Bangkok and surrounds.
We will arrive at Tribuvan in Kathmandu Feb. 6.

Pala will stay on in Nepal to oversee operations at BirGorhka. Yandu and I are
scheduled to arrive back in Reno Feb. 22.
It is a long and arduous journey and having made this journey five times already I know
from experience things can happen so these dates could vary a day or even a few
days either way.

Most importantly this means our US operation will be shut down most of the month of
February. My phone will log messages but we will be unable to ship anything while we
are away. Please be patient and bear with us.

This trip will improve quality even more and I will be bringing back a few brand new
items -- khukuris and more. While we are gone I will try to make some posts here on
the forum and I might be able to answer some email using Gelbu's computer. I may
have to pay $12 per hour access fee to get where I want on the net so I will not be
spending my usual 50 or 60 hours per week at the screen. But I will do my best to stay
in touch.

In order to keep everybody informed I will keep this post at the top until we leave and
also will place a notice on our website. If I forget which I am sure to do please send
this post BTTT.

While I am away be kind and considerate to one another and if you can find the time to
do a little puja for our safe journey it would be greatly appreciated!

Khukuri FAQ

Uhhh... Uncle Bill, do you suppose you could leave a little bit earlier and stay gone just a tad longer? My bank account would be *sooo* grateful if you did. (VBG)

I am disgusted with The Swiss Colony. My best friend, to whom I gave a 15" AK, and my wife's best friend ( now his wife )were down yesterday. The Swiss Colony order did not come in, even by 2 PM. My wife ran and got some other gifts for the gal, I told her I'd take care of him. Anyway, since the SC order didn't arrive, he will now have to take the shop one 15" AK from next to his bed and mount it crossed with the shop 2 15" AK he got for Christmas ( he couldn't wait and opened it ).

His nephews have been trying to get him to tell them where to get their own, but I didn't tell him til yesterday. You may shortly have a bunch of Reno/Carson residents calling you every afternoon after mailtime ( since it won't be long distance ) and begging to know what new stuff came in in the last shipment. The whole famdamily has loose screws on guns and knives and hunting and shooting and the outdoors. Notice how some families seem genetically prone to HIKV and related maladies?

Uncle Bill, I'm in agreement with Rusty, you really should consider extending your stay to allow us HIKV sufferers to regain our financial footing. I know that my family would enjoy being able to get back to eating three meals a day instead of being on "khukuri rations." 'Course I really don't think they ever bought the argument that my getting yet another khuk was a matter of life and death -- they just couldn't understand the seriousness of HIKV. We sufferers are truly a burdened lot.

I'm off the forums for a few months and I miss Uncle Bill finally deciding to take a vacation. Well, I sure am glad you are taking a vacation (I know it will be a hard trip but it should also be a lot of fun). When I first got on I thought it was for Christmas but I am glad it is not until Feburary that will give me more time to forget to send a picture of myself and my family with the khukuri

. Actually, I think I can remember to send the picture in. It's real nice to be back on these forums. I am glad I have a few weeks to visit.

thanks to all and take care

Hope you don't run into any difficulties like the recent unpleasantness that now sits in Afganistan.

Will get some pictures off to you before you go via e-mail for the kami's.

Uncle Bill,

I'm still in Asia but just got back from Thailand. Being used to the hot weather of Southeast Asia, I found Bangkok quite chiily.

I don't know if you been to Bangkok recently, but the traffic is a real nightmare. It takes two hours to get across the city in a cab, as there is only one strip of high way in that overcrowed city. Your best bet is to get a hotel along the sky train route that just opened up.

Take care.

Hi goat and thanks for tips. I have not been to Thailand for over ten years and the traffic was a nightmare even then. We have not booked our hotel yet. Any suggestions? We will want to do temple tour and probably Rose Garden.

Khukuri FAQ

We used a tour company for hotel reservations. They were very effiecent, plus they are open to 9 pm, a definate plus when you need to reschedule at night. Here's their contact info.

You'd definately want a place close to a sky train station. 1,000 to 1,300 bahts is the usual rate for 2 persons per night through a tour agency. The hotels charge you more if you book yourself.

Traffic is pure hell. The 3 wheeled "tutus" will get you around faster and cheaper than the taxis. But you'll be inhaling deadly Bangkok traffic air. Which is second only to Beijing. I'd get a gas mask the next time I go.

Otherwise just get ready to haggle and be hustled.

Last time I checked, it was about 32 bahts to the dollar. Not as favorable as 2 years ago during the crisis.
