DaveH,
I also have an older Large Sebenza with the polished blade. Mine is an original P marked production piece and beautiful beyond description.
I have tried to take a common sense approach to this knife
.too beautiful to use hard and risk serious damage. Yet the knife is too special to just stow away somewhere and allow to waste away.
So
.I carry it some in order to appreciate it but dont endanger the knife with any potentially destructive use. The Small Seb or Victorinox Soldier that are always with me (even when I have the Large) take care of any heavy/dirty jobs. Ill use the Large for a few days, get my fix, spend a few minutes on preventive maintenance and stow it until next time.
Dont refurbish unless there is severe damage or some compelling reason to do so. A refurbished knife is just that
.refurbished. Id much rather have used, well maintained knife that shows honest wear than one refurbished. Its just
.well, more honest.
OTOH, I have a Small Sebenza that was refurbished by CRK and it was returned perhaps more beautiful than when new. But the small scratch on the clip where I dropped a soup spoon on it is gone as are the other scars that made it special to me. Its a like-new knife now
just different somehow.
Happy Holidays.
