First time making a full overlay sheath, I used shark (thanks Paul!) and really like it, each piece is a little different and has it's own character. I'll probably use it more for inlays but wanted to try this for a change.

Was trying to match (as close as possible) the roll top/lining deer skin color to each knife handle color, used factory dyed gold for the large sheath (Spalted Tamerind knife handle) and factory dark brown for the small one (Desert Ironwood burl handle). Large black sheath has a 6-7 oz. steer hide core and the small dark brown sheath has a 2-3 oz.

Comments, questions always welcome,

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks you guys!!

Both do look black in the photos don't they Paul, small one is dark brown but I still need to find a source for some good factory black dyed thread. I'll see if Barbour's makes it

Dave, those look beautiful....I really likie....
Question, does the shark skin trim flush with the cowhide then burnish with it, or tuck under, or what?
Thanks,
Rick

Very nice indeed! Those really beautiful and compliment the knives well.

Hi Rick, trims flush with the cowhide, unlike some exotics that I've used the shark edge finishes nicely, I dyed the sheath edge to match the shark color.
