Just finished these up today. My wife has a real job so I'll need to post these then vacuum and do a few dishes before she gets home:eek:!

Both are pretty similar with 1084 blades. This first one has Guayacan for its handle. Also known as soapwood and Texas Lignum vitae, it is the hardest, densest wood in Texas. Only the center is usable. The rest is whitewood and fairly soft. A recent thread on one of the forums was discussing Lignum vitae, and generally I find it very durable but not particularly interesting to look at on a knife. This species gums up your belts & files as you would expect with L. vitae, but it oxidizes to a deep navy blue! Really beautiful. I can't wait.

This one is made with Mesquite burl.

Both woods were given to me by a woodworker I always visit when I pass through Uvalde, Texas. My thanks goes out to Mr. Jack Salmon.

I must say I'm a sucker for simple hunters. Both look great and I'd be hard pressed to choose between the woods. Outstanding.

I'll echo Barty here... two FINE hunters. The wood on the first one really intersts me. Do you have any examples of it when it oxidizes a blue color?

Very nice work Terry. I was not aware that a species of lignum vitae was native to Texas. I love the stuff on a working knife.

Mr. V you once again got my blood pumping a little faster. You make gooood cookies!:D

As a wood nut, I'd need primo wood. Nevertheless, it's official; I'm a fan. Wish I were a client, but my economic recovery plan languishes, perhaps waiting for a kick-start with a dose of timely wealth sharing with the fat cats.

Simple is good! I like them both. The longer guard and larger choil area on #1 may tilt things that way. Thanks for sharing.

Terry -- anyone purchasing either knife could not be more pleased I'm sure. those are very fine looking hunters. just the kind of knife those that want working knives should be please to strap onto the belt.
