Just finished these up today. My wife has a real job so I'll need to post these then vacuum and do a few dishes before she gets home
!
Both are pretty similar with 1084 blades. This first one has Guayacan for its handle. Also known as soapwood and Texas Lignum vitae, it is the hardest, densest wood in Texas. Only the center is usable. The rest is whitewood and fairly soft. A recent thread on one of the forums was discussing Lignum vitae, and generally I find it very durable but not particularly interesting to look at on a knife. This species gums up your belts & files as you would expect with L. vitae, but it oxidizes to a deep navy blue! Really beautiful. I can't wait.
This one is made with Mesquite burl.
Both woods were given to me by a woodworker I always visit when I pass through Uvalde, Texas. My thanks goes out to Mr. Jack Salmon.
Cheers,
