U.S.M.C. / U.S.N. Ka Bar knife

I have a friend who brought a knife to me
for sharpening ; I immediately thought it to
be a U.S. Navy MKII. It has no hilt to speak
of, has leather washer handles, and about a 4"
blade ( black ). On the ricasso is KA BAR / Oleans
N.Y.. Just what EXACTLY does my friend have
here, and is there any collector value ?

It sounds like a U.S.N MK! fixed blade. There were ton's of these made, value is around $50-75 in excellent condition. Check Ebay for current prices.
