I never meant for that thread to get so out of control. Just forget that I ever said anything, k?

I should also say that the chaos that went on in there wasn't you're fault. It's pretty obvious who started that whole mess. Ah well, live and let die, right.

Today I removed the faded screws, touched them up with a permanent paint marker, and they look better than new. I can't rub this finish off of them now, and I've been trying. Cool. Maybe Emerson will hire me to do all of their screws.

Ahh yes, the screws. We are aware of the screw problem. We recieved a bad run of screws from a supplier. They look fine as they set but, as you noticed, tend to wear prematurely. There is no way to tell when they are new so it is a definate possibility that some went out the door without our knowledge. We sent somewhere in the neighborhood of 100,000 screws back once this was brought to our attention.

We will be happy to send you some new screws if you want to give us a call at the shop.

Sorry, I was sidetracked by the ravings on your original thread.

Unfortunately, there are some people who simply feel the need to go into a place where products are discussed that they don't like or actively despise from the start.

It is like going to a Shoneys and ordering an all you can eat breakfast, going up 3 times, then saying to the Waitress, "This food sucks."

Why even peruse the Forum if you think the products that are discussed in the Forum are overpriced or junk? Or worse yet, overpriced junk?

I Moderate James Piorek's Forum. From time to time, someone just stops in to say, "Why is this stuff so expensive?" Or, "This stuff just isn't worth the price James is asking for it!"

Well, obviously it is not worth it to the person making the statement and that is fine. When you try to explain simple Supply & Demand to a person like that, they argue with you. They just don't understand.

JSP has a hardcore group of followers, much like Emerson. The only problem is, they are a very quiet bunch of people. James does not release new things as fast as Emerson, the Forum lags a little bit...but they are dedicated people that buy his stuff and see the value in it. If it were not for them, James would not be asking these prices. The same can be said for Ernie.

Then, it inevitably turns into a pissing contest. "Well, you know, chisel grinds are not good for trimming Christmas trees..." Or, "The Commander does not thrust well...and the curve on the knife does not work on that size knife, that is for big knives don't you know, and I know what I am talking about because someone is teaching me, personally, The Holy Grail of knifefighting and you don't know what you are talking about..."

Ah. . . the friendly discourse. . . I love to see the new posters jump in and rant. You know it gets kind of old to just continually read all the great thing about Emersons!

Now, anyone got a complaint with the way their latest Emerson is packaged or boxed or anything? . . .

You know - the box on MY Emerson did have a ding in the corner of it... Ernie should be CHECKING for these types of things!

Here' s a simple solution for the faded screws. Go to a sports/ hunting shop and locate a product called "gun black" or "gun blue". It comes in a felt tip marker and is offered by various firearms cleaning supply companies. Birchwood Casey brand is the most popular. These products are used to touch up small nicks and fade spots on blued firearms. Clean the screws with alcohol. Let dry. Dab with felt tip marker. Voila! New brand screws. Its finish lasts much longer than those Sharpies markers. Although it doesn' t smell as good.
