I am new to knives so could someone please give me any info on any laws in the UK regarding knives and buying them and such. As I would like to know what restrictions there are if any. I know you cant carry them, but feel free to educate me.

Thanks in advance

Hi Aegil,

Check out the forum www.Britishblades.com lots of usefull posts and info there about British knife laws.

Basically in the UK for legal carry the knife has to be a sub 3 inch slipjoint ie not a fixed blade or a locking knife. You can carry a locking knife or fixed blade if yu have a good reason ie you need it for work, religious reasons, going camping etc.

Some knives are illegal to buy or manufacture or import into the UK such as Balisongs, flick knives and punch daggers. Other knives are legal to buy and own tho unless it is as I said above a sub 3 inch slipjoint it is not legal to carry.

My EDC knife is the Spyderco UK penknife which is totally legal to carry in the UK :D

I think that pretty much sums it up. For specific questions eg. 'is my axis lock a gravity knife' kind of thing, there is a law lecturer and plenty of police officers hanging about on britishblades who are exceptionally helpful.
