So the other day my wife and I decide to "trade" vehicles. She gets my Ford Expedition (gas guzzler) since she works just 5-10 minutes down the road from home and I get to use her Buick Century (I work about 45 minutes from home in another city/county). I go to work that day and come back and everything is peachy king until I get down the street from home and the heat is maxed out on the vehicle temp guage.
I figure it's just low on fluids and will get it an oil change and the works the next day. So the next day I travel about 10 minutes to an oil change location and I park in the garage with the car smelling up the place like something is burning. The guys take a look under the hood and explain that there is a leak involving the antifreeze hose and that they aren't able to work on it because they only specialize in oil changes. Luckily my parents are in town so they offer to follow me home to look at it. The Oil change guy was trying to refer me to a mechanic down the street that shares business with them and that it might cost a little bit to have it fixed, something like a hundred with labor
My dad and I get the car home and look under the hood ourselves and discover it is just a 4-6" 90 degree hose that is the culprit. I go to the auto parts shop and spend about $20 on two jugs of 50/50 antifreeze, 12" of hose, and two bottles of water (it was hot that day
). I get back home (in a different vehicle of course) and we begin work on the hose.
I pull out my trusty Umnumzaan and cut the necessary amount of hose and we fix the car....good as new and it's been a week already with no problems (knock on wood). So the Umnumzaan saved me a good $80 plus dollars for a simple cut that would have allowed a mechanic to charge an arm and a leg. The Umnumzaan is earning it's keep.
Pics of job well done and of the slight polishing/sanding done on the Umnumzaan.
