Every now and then customers share unique gifts with me by surprising me with little tokens of their appreciation for some work I did for them. Over the years I have had some law enforcement and retired LEO send me patches from the state they worked in and little SAK knives for the key ring and even folding knives and fixed blades. Here in the last few years I've received a couple of Armed service coins that I find particularly cool and thought I'd share them with you guys.

One, the circular one arrived today, shared with me by an active duty officer. The other oval shaped one was also a gift from a service man that was just leaving out for Iraq with a knife I set up for him to take with him. I'm not sure of the story behind these coins exactly or anything about what they were for other than commemoratives but just thought they were pretty cool is all.

Here is a quick scan of the two I have been given showing the front and back. On the back of the oval shaped one it has all five branches listed including the Coast Guard. The round one does not have the insignia for the Coast Guard so of course my wife, being an active duty retired Commander from the Indian Health Service which is a branch of the Coast Guard believe it or not, likes the oval one best. Still I find they are both pretty neat.

Thanks for looking and thanks to both the active duty guys that gave me these as gifts. Much appreciated

I had some of these. They are called challenge coins.

I have earned one, it is only a JROTC one but I'm proud of it. Only the top fourth of one percent of cadets in AFJROTC get to go to Honors Camp, and if you make it through Honors Camp you get a challenge coin.

Congrats.

Yeah I don't know what these were referred to but I think they are really cool and I'm quite proud and happy to have been given them. I have them on display in our printers tray here hanging in the house.
