I need some help. Does anyone hear know what a "customs number" is? I have one for my (you guessed it) EU-17 Magnum but do not know what this code does or allows me to do. For the record it has two numbers at the beginning and the end. I was thinking that this would allow me to track my order but when I called USPS all I got was useless BS about nothing in particular. I know that you can purchase tracking from some postal services but have never heard of a customs number.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I just tried something and this showed up

"Your item was processed and left our SAN ANTONIO, TX facility on March 31, 2005. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."

However, it does not say where the package is located now.

With USPS if regular delivery confirmation was purchased by the seller it only documents the origin and destination of a package's route, not all the stops in between. You can purchase "tracking" but it is not the same as delivery confirmation.

From what I remember when i used USPS for international orders delivery confirmation will only document the destination within the U.S. and Canada. Any other destination and the final mark will be it's exist from the U.S.

It's been a while since I've used USPS for international so someone else might be able to confirm this for you.

it has to do with international mailings....go to www.usps.com you can access all the info on this you will need. Any mail going to and from foreign countries need customs numbers.

While our postal service does well delivering most times, they really suck when it comes to updating the status of packages like UPS and other carriers do.

More than likely, the item will show up before the system is updated.

Doesn't help with the wait does it??? ;)

Thanks everyone for your help. I think they must update the information some times because I checked on saturday and it said "no information about the is parcel can be displayed" or something along those lines. Anyone know if I can use this customs number for anything other than a book mark? I know the Canadian government uses them to regulate incoming packages but can I use it to check the location of my knife? No, you are totally right, the wait is too long no matter what. I just really want to have a date so that I can be there to open it immediately. :D

Thanks everyone

Right..customs numbers are more internal codes....very simply put.
You still would have to have confirmation numbers..or tracking numbers..whichever service you use....tracking will help you most....confirmation will only serve to "confirm delivery." As someone pointed out...tracking will take a day or two...and even longer on international mail. Just have to be very patient with mail to/from Canada. I've waited 3 weeks for mail coming from Montreal to N.Mich. what stateside normally would have taken 1 week.
As I mentioned..the web site will explain everything to you..more info than you'll ever need to know.

i work at the post office so i know a thing or two or at least i think i do  the usps scanners are outdated compared to what ups uses so it doesn't update anything until the carrier cradles the scanner in the evening.

a ups carrier told me their scanners are in touch with satellites and when something is scanned it is sent automatically.
