Upholstery Machine

I have access to use my in-laws upholstery machine. Can it be used to sew sheaths? I do enjoy hand stitching but some of my simple sheath are probably better served being stitched on a machine. I just want to find out before I get on their machine and tear it up. Thanks in advance.

Will, the machine brand and model number would be a big help in answering your question. It may be alright your your lighter weight needs, but I don't think it would do the edge seams where you are going through a minimum of three layers of say 7/8 oz. leather. It will probably handle a total thickness of about 1/4". Once again this is without knowing the exact machine, brand and model.
