I,ve been throwing steak knives lately into a foam target and as Watchful was smart to point out the tiups are more prone to snap off as they are thinner and less durable if they hit something more durable than foam . Unfortunately they chew up the foam pretty quick at a dozen throws at a time. Can anyone tell me a material that makes a good large target that is inexpensive and more durable than styrofoam ?

Get one of those foam archery target blocks. Then wrap the whole thing in duct tape and you will have a target that will last a very long time.

i recommend you get a throwing knife set. Some are quite cheap and they usually last a long long time....

Thats a great idea but doesn,t address the issue . Unfortunately I think someone walked off with my favourite set so I have to make do for quite a while . I am going to make a couple from some grass shears . Until then I have to use what I have .

Layers of corrugated carboard duct-taped together last a long time, and aren't hard on knives. When a layer gets too chewed up, you can overlay another piece of cardboard.

Liquor stores are a great supply, and there are two ways to get the cardboard. One is to ask for old boxes, which is free but not as challenging, and the other is to buy a few cases of things and drink your way to the bottom. More expensive, but a lot more fun.

ah yes indeed. buy lots of cupboard. I remember using them before and you can throw right through them if you only put up 3 layers and throw at it with a big knife. Put up at least 8 layers up cupboard duct taped together as watchful mentioned.

I had one of those Yellow Archery targets with the Bee or Hornet on it, and it was very durable and only about $40. I wrapped it in duct tape. If that is too expensive, use cardboard.
