I recently sent 2 busse`s in for resharpen,

I sent them priority mail, insured full amount, no delivery confirmation.
I can not tell you, for those that don`t know, how important delivery confirmation is.

It turns out that my package did arrive, but upon first contact with postal service, they did not want to give me the time of day. After going to see the postmaster every thing was confirmed. Delivery confirmation is around .50 cents, make sure you spend this extra for peace of mind and keeping track of your package.

AMEN

Also, make sure it is scanned in. I've received several packages with the nice green sticker and for laughs, checked the tracking and found that there was no record of it in the system.

Delivery Confirmation "tracking" might suck sometimes, but for less than 1/2 a dollar, I always use it...If nothing else, a thief might pass on a package with the green & white Delivery Comfirmation sticker on it, thinking that it might actually be "tracked".:).

It's the best bargain available.......anywhere!

I don't leave home w/o it, and I request it from anyone mailing anything to me.

Collecting on an insurance claim from the USPS is like trying to sue China! Besides, the insurance stamp on a package just tells USPS employees (with sticky fingers) that there just might be something in this package worth taking home. :(

Best method of shipping...UPS or FedEx. I'll personally pay extra just to not have those grubby postal workers touch my mail. I've had 2 packages in the past year dissappear with out a trace. UN-FREAKIN-Acceptable!!!

I usually don't spend the extra money if I'm insuring a package except now I print my lables online and they give free automatic Delivery Confirmation that way. It's easy to track a package using the insurance #. Just go to the office in your post office rather than the teller. They track it just like they would if it had a DC #. I guess it depends how helpful your local postmasters office is. The secretary I have dealt with was really nice and had no prob tracking with the insurance #. If you want the best of both worlds, just print your lables online and you get free DC. Heck if you're a PC user you can even pay for 'em online and then you don't have to stand in line.

yep - i pay for postage online - print my labels, and leave the box in the mailbox. doesnt get any easier. also - beyond DC being free - you can order free shipping supplies (i order 25 at a time of the small USPS priority boxes - perfect for most folders)

The last thaw here in NE Ohio revealed a box in a plastic bag near my mail box. It was an item I had been looking for. The box was marked "Delivery Confirmation" and "Insured." Best I can tell, it had been buried in the snow for about a week. I have regularly found smaller packages with the same stickers left in my mail box -- 550 feet from the house. These are parts which have little to no value except to me, but I wonder what the sender is getting for his money.

GF, is right. There is no reason to get a DC if you buy insurance. I just go to the window and ask to have it checked. They bring me out a printout with all the info.

I agree with Win and GF.

When I ship something expensive through USPS, "Registered" is the only way I will go and insurance is automatic in the registered fee up to 25k. (If I remember correctly it's 25k).

Another package from my supplier arrived today. Delivery Confirmation. Insured. Package dumped in the snow next to my rural mailbox in a plastic bag. I suppose I should be grateful for the plastic bag.

All you fans of these USPS "services": what is the sender supposed to get for his extra money?

Has anybody actually ever collected on insurance with USPS? Just curious as to how complicated it is and how long it takes.
