I picked up a couple of Vantage selects with the plain black handles a few weeks ago with the intention of putting some wood scales on one and micarta on the other, one is a 2009 and the other a 2010.
I discovered an interesting thing when I disassembled them:
The upper one is the '10 and has brass (I think) washers and the lower one is the '09 and has nylon (again, I think) washers. I checked my Pro and my Avid, both of which are '11's and they have the brass washers.
So, was this a design change that took place after '09?
As a side note, I really like the Avid's Cherrywood handle the best of all my Vantages. The Pro G-10 has far too many sharp edges, when I reach into the pocket it is clipped to I find it very uncomfortable (I have 2, they both have sharp edges at the end and where the wavy lines end on the sides of the handles). The Select with Dymondwood also has sharp edges...the plain black selects are very comfortable and smooth.
