I have two VP's one from 2008 and one from 2011. The 2008 scales are machined down nice and thin, the 2011 appear to be production thickness. Why did Buck stop machining the scales on the Vantage Pro? I like the thinner version. Also the Vantages that I have from 2008 seem to have a nicer finish.

I noticed that too. A friend of mine has a 2011 and mine is a 2008.

The Avids are the same way. Much thicker scales and the rear spacer is less finished. Overall thickness is up over 1/8" on the 2011 Avid over the 2008.

That or a they are trying to use the thicker scales to stiffen the frame some to stop the bad lock up. I feel that the open frame design and thin liners let the frame twist and allows the excess lock travel to develop. Thicker scales may help some.

Thicker liners or a full back spacer like the "Force Vantages" would help this great knife become a long lasting legend.

I have a Pro and a Avid that the locks are both all the way to the right. The Pro is so lose the blade has 1/8" play when open.
