In my country the only knives that are somewhat allowed are swiss army knives and other small knives without a lockblade. The Victorinox Excelsior is very thin, it only has 2 knives, a large and a small, no other crap like toothpicks and bottle openers. My friend practices small things like that at home, he throws it at a wooden object, and he's getting good at it. How long will a Victorinox Excelsior last ? Is the handle good enough, won't it crack like cheaper brands of swiss army knives ? I never had a Victorinox so i don't know it's qualily, but i've read very good things about it, it seems to be the best brand for swiss army knives.

Also, are there other small folding knives without lockblade who are maybe better for throwing then the Victorinox Excelsior ?

Don't flame me for this topic please, i just need a folding knive that i can carry around and that's legal to carry around in my country and i want some minor throwing fun with it.

Most people will tell you that they haven't found a folder yet to withstand the impact of hundreds of throws. I am one of them as well. However, you can use steel needles, large nails, ...etc as throwing weapons for fun or defense if need be. What country are you from? There might be another thrower already on the forum who has solved your dilema.

yeah, i also would suggest items like large spikes/needles etc as posted before. sounds like you need to move here. umm, then again some of our state laws sound like your home...

If you have to throw a folder , change the target . Stiff styrofoam , ethafoam which is used for archery targets . A few layers of cardboard ,All of these will take it easier on the knife . As has been said folders especially ones with the blade more on one side of the handle do not make the best throwers for a variety of reasons . If you want, the best folder would be the one with the heaviest blade and lighter handle . Of course the pivot point is crucial . Sharpen up some heavy nails . otherwise have fun . Its great to have challenges . Have fun !

I've broken some good folders by throwing them. Its easy to make throwers-- heck you can throw anything with a point on it and make it stick. (Screwdrivers, nails, sissors, hatchets, chunks of metal, or even wood, ect.) When I've worked in warehouses, I used to make these throwing darts with the metal straps that went around some boxes. I would cut the shapes out with tinsnips. To add strength and weight, I would use three pieces and make a "layered" thrower by taping them all together. Pretty fun, cause I would make all sorts of profiles and experiment with weight distribution, and things like single or multiple points.

All of these other options seem like they'd be more fun than tossing a perfectly good pocket knife. (I had to learn the hard way)

use cheap kitchen knives. they are inexpensive and should be legal under the most restrictive jurisdictions.
