Greetings you all:)

Since it has become too expensive for me to order in the States and wanting some sort of a more or less traditional pen knive, I ordered a Victorinox Alox Pocket Pal over here in the Netherlands.

I would very much like to know your opinion on this knife.

Thanks very much in advance

The Pocket Pal is a fine penknife. It's slim profile carries well -especially in slacks. I think you will be pleased!

Mine isn't Alox, but it's great, simplicity in a decent size. I especially like the rounded ends and slender style that will make it extra-comfortable for pocket carry.

Expensive? Picked up mine last month at Ace Hardware for $4.50. :p

I believe that the Alox version of the Pocket Pal is called the Secretary. They are both based on the old office/pen knife pattern and are lightweight and elegant. Either Pocket Pal or Secretary, I believe that you will find it a very useful and surprisingly strong pen knife. Congratulations and enjoy.

Funny, but I've been thinking about getting one of these as a carving knife since my Vic Super Tinker works so well.

Is the pen blade on the Pocket Pal the same size as the small blades on other Victorinox knives?

The pocket pal is a very nice edc pocket knife for general use. Slim, lightweight, no corners to wear out pocket lining, and two blades. What's not to like?:D

StuntDouble, the small blade on the pocket pal is smaller than on a tinker or such. More like a small scalple blade for very fine whittling or surgery.

I have an Alox Secretary which I use as a "suit knife" - it weighs next to nothing and pretty much disappears in any pocket. When you add that and what the others have said to typical Victorinox quality (not to mention a pretty low pricepoint) you really can't go wrong.

What he said.
Here's a quick-n-dirty comparing the Secretary to a Rambler and Pioneer Settler.

JAB, do you know if they are still making the Pioneer Settler? I couldn't find it on the Vic website, or on Amazon. Looks interesting with a large blade and also the small one.

.......... Never mind ........ pulled my head out ........ found it on Amazon!!

Ah..interesting. I didn't realize it had the tiny blade on it. Thanks for the info gentlemen.

Thanks for the picture. I used to have one of those but if I remember right it was the red plastic one. Am I correct did they make one in the red plastic.

Yes, the red plastic one is the Pocket Pal; the smooth alox is the Secretary. Same blades and same size on both, except the Secretary may be a little thinner due to the alox vs the plastic.

Nothing wrong with the pocket pal. I have fond memories of the one I had when I was young. It was one of my first knife I bought with my own hard work for money.
