Visiting the USA, can I bring a knife?

After all that I have read I am really worried about brining along a knife of any description. I have many Spyderco's, Benchmades etc. etc. Many of which I have travelled with without problem.

I will be in NY, PA and Il. I will have my Gerber Multi-tool but would really like to have one my folders with me as well which will be in my checked in luggage between airports and in my pocket at other times.

The last thing I need is to be arrested either rightfully so, or by someone who does not understand or misinterprets the law.

Am I being paranoid?

No, you are not being paranoid just careful. You should have no problems bringing a knife in checked luggage. As far as carrying is concerned check some of the other threads dealing with the places you are visiting. Have a great visit.

I agree with Kamkazmoto's just be careful and responsible. I travel a lot for work and always have my knife in my luggage and no problems to report. The best thing you can do is arm yourself with knowledge and let that influence your choice.

Illinois is one state where they claim the kershaws w/speed safe are switchblades. I would use caution in Illinois!

And be careful the knives aren't taken out of your checked luggage!
