OK guys. I need help with certain managing aspects of this forum, and the dead one at Knifedogs. I am looking for a volunteer to help me with things around both forums. Duties of this position would include posting pics, keeping the knifedogs forum up to date, and also managing a list of machete orderers.

Guys, this position is going to take up quite a bit of forum time, so be sure you want to do it before volunteering. Depending on interest, I think this should be a revolving position. I may change my mind if someone does some kinda super bangup job though. And I may add a helper if the job seems to big.

A few questions I'll be asking potential helpers:

Where do you post the most?
What kind of knives interest you?
How fluent are you at foruming? Posting pics? Implanting links in your sig?
Are you a member at other outdoors forums?
Do you do reviews?

As to the benefits, I thought maybe a machete to the helper would be a good incentive. What says y'all? It'll come with a T-shirt too.

Sounds like a very fair incentive to me.

I'll bow out, since you guys have no idea who I am, and have little enough time between answering emails and trying to get caught up at the shop.

I'm pretty sure some other makers have fanboys that don't even get compensated for their fanaticism so, a machete is just icing on the cake. Although I have found in my business, that sending your gear pimps a little treasure every so often is good for everyone. ;)

pm sent!! I'm up for it I just have a few questions for ya to answer first buddy!

ratamahatta, put me down for a 14"-er with micarta grips! :D :D

Andy, I would love to help you out but I don't think I could do the job justice.
I appreciate all your help and will try to make it up to you sometime.
Hope you get someone great for the job.

Andy I might be interested,
Where do I post the most: I mostly post here and 2 or 3 other knife makers forums. I am still learning bushcraft so I pretty much just lurk around WS&S but if I had a reason to post I would.
What kinda knives are you interested in: All kinds of bush knives and hunting knives. Basically all working knives.
How forum fluent are you: Unfortunatly I am pretty fluent on forums. Wish I had spent so much time on them in the past b/c now I am a junkie, :p.
Other forums: I have accounts at a few here, Knifedogs, BCUSA, and ArcheryTalk and JD but dont go there that often.
Do I do reviews: I do a few if I have a good reason to do one.

Andy sounds cool man.. i'm sure someone will Ratamahatta will be good for the job.. i'm always down to help you out to bro, if you ever need anything in the future..

This is encouraging. Two good candidates.

RR, and Rat, are either of y'all going to be able to make Blade Show this year? And, if not, what is the reason?

I am new to the world of custom knives. Last year did not feel like I had the knowledge to spend the money to go to Atlanta for 3 days looking at knives that I would blow thru and not appreciate them, so I did not go. Not saying that I know enough about knives now to fully appreciate them but figure I know enough to learn something. I work swinging 12's, just checked my schedule and it looks like I am working that weekend but might be able to switch with someone, I would def like to go and see some others work that dont post on here.

Hope you can make it Bro - It really is a great show - even if you have to drive down and back in same day

I know that this is going to take up a lil bit of time but it cant be that bad, can it. I mean everyone is chomping at the bit to get a machete and would rather wait and pay than do a lil bit of work and help Andy out in the process. To each thier own, but I will be more than happy to do it. I may be getting in over my head but I will give it a try if Andy so sees it fit, and if he dont I dont blame him. I've only been around a year some of you guys have been around here for quit a while, and he has established a good relationship with you.

This is very intriguing. I'm not sure I have the time to commit, or would be willing to spend much time on other forums, but, as you said, a machete is quite an appealing incentive. Going to have to think about this. I'm surprised Mistwalker, Chainring, or Raining haven't already volunteered.

Well, I'd certainly like to talk you into Blade Show regardless. Dylan and I had the 1st annual Fiddleback/Fletcher Dirty South dinner after the show Saturday at Fogo de Chao's, and we're excited to do the 2nd Annual as well. I hope a lot of y'all come!

Let me give this thread till Monday before I make a decision. I don't think the candidate needs to be active on that many forums. WSS here, and BCUSA are important ones to me.

man I'm gonna pass on this, thanks for the opportunity!

Well, thanks for considering it.

Important position FB choose carefully.

I have friends who are craftspeople and the most successful are the ones that are able to solely focus on their art and then have somebody else, usually their spouse, focus totally on the business and marketing end of things.

Ok well, considering everybody else is bowing out, I'll rescind my declination.

That being said, I am in the shop most days during semi-normal hours. So if jobless fans out there are able, maybe they'd be more suited. Andy I already mentioned what my work is, so it'll be up to you if you feel it's conflicting.

In answer to the questions, in order:

1) BPL Forums(www.backpackinglight.com), I'm very active and well known in the UL Hiking community, obviously. On BF, I've been a long time lurker, but finally started posting once I got infected with HIKV, so obviously I post a fair bit now in the HI section.

2) Mostly bushcrafty type blades, khukri, and LIGHT weight choppers. Actually I'm obsessed with lighter weight versions of all blades, since I think many are generally quite overbuilt for their roles currently. Yes I know that's contradictory to being obsessed with HI Khuks.

3) Very fluent, my background is in IS/IT. None of that's an issue.

4) BPL, HF, Rammy, etc., and that's more than enough.

5) Yes, I won't get into the details in public, but I'm sure you have an idea.

I'm online in the mornings and late into the evenings, replying to emails, and forum related miscellania.

Surely someone else is more qualified for this than I?

Anyway, I'll definitely be at Blade this year!

I would love to help, but I fear that being involved with you or your activities would someday ruin my chances of running for president.

True enough.

LOL.

I chose Ridge Runner for this position at this time. Thank you very much Kerry.

BTW, this position is not a shill. I've asked Kerry to be comfortable with openly criticizing any aspect of my work/designs/business. I appreciate this same openness from each and all of y'all too. I'm still a newb knifemaker, not some master that is beyond criticism, and I value your input.
