Finally had an idea that didn't go down the tubes. Over a year ago, I got an Alessi rig for a SIG P220 that was as comfortable as any I'd ever owned. Looking at it, it occured to me that if it was reversed, and made for a little five-shooter like my 640 .357, it would be an ideal belly rig (or "appendix carry", in today's PC world). Lou Alessi liked the idea, we kicked it back and forth through a couple of evolutions, and here it is:

http://www.acstudios.net/tsimi/apx.html

It is now available for the Smith & Wesson J Frames, Colt Detective Specials, and all the Kahr pistols.

It is slim, trim and comfortable. At dinner the other night, half of our local PD was unable to spot it until he patted me down (fortunately, everyone in the cafe knew everyone else. You take whatever entertainment you can get, in a small town ).

It was MY IDEA :) All Lou contributed was 40 years experience, and lumps of money for the cutting dies, and talent with leather beyond nearly everybody in his field....Oh, Yeah...AC parked it on one of his pages so his old man could show off while he shot off his mouth :p

Bruiser, there actually is a sorta, kinda cho on the underside of the waistband /belt clip.

I noticed that in the URL, also, but was afraid to ask. There are caves in SD, too

NDN & PAX,
O h lordy, first he's wordy, now he's talented, next he's gonna be famous!!Crap!!If he wasn't a little Chipmunk, Pax, you could make him a Rooster(Bantum)cause he sure is "CROWING!HEE:D May have to get one of those!!Way to go Chipmunk!!
jim(Saint)

Congrats!!!!!!:D

I know we even discussed this very holster via email awhile back, AND I saw the picture, but could you tell me exactly where it goes when you wear it(sometimes my braindamage from boozing days/daze is more obvious than others;))? From belly rig, I'd imagine right in the front of your pants.

I'm really thinking about getting one of these--I have a Taurus 5 shot titanium revolver, snub 2" ported barrel, that would look mighty nice in that:cool: I often don't wear it because I don't have a decent carry holster and I can't find my "thunderwear":D

Rob, the right-hand version is pictured. The clip goes over the waistband, just to the right of the belt buckle. it has a slight muzzle forward cant, and will slip farther in that direction, to rest against the hip. It is exactly the same (except for two thicknesses of leather) as shoving it under your belt on the way to the Stop & Rob, but ends the possibility that it will slide down your leg and become a "sock gun". I don't know about the Rugers and Tauri at this point - they were mentioned early on, and the cutting dies _should_ allow for them. I guess orders will determine that one. I wore the prototype for several months with both a J Frame and an SP 101, and it was comfortable except for a couple of corrections made on the final. The close molding and covered muzzle cured all the ills of the first proto, and the change in the top, to that of Lous' "Belt Slide" configuration ("ears" that act as a body shield, and protect the hammer, etc., on models that need it) finished it up.

Thanks Wal:) It looks like a great holster! Yeah the "sock Gun" thing wouldn't be much fun--especially when I'm wearing shorts:D

Wal:

That Looks great! Now where can I get one? What's the price, colors and type(s) of leather it's made in? I have a Smith 637 Airweight that I usually carry in my right front pocket in cargo type shorts. I have a Kramer horsehide pocket holster which does a good job of making the gun& hloster look like a Wallet.

I think you hit on a very good idea with the design. I love my little Airweight as it allows my to go without my photographers vest in the summer for concealment. ( I still do keep something more voracious in the vehicle;) ) Since it is so versatile, I'm always looking for carry options. Excellent work!

BTW Wal, Have you seen the new Sig P220ST Stainless? Shweeet! I might have to start saving up for one.

Thanks, Craig. It's leather (a thin, very dense high-grade cow hide) and only available in the burgandy as in the pic. you can e-mail Lou at lfalessi@cs.com for prices and availability. It will need some Hide Glide, Leather Lightning or other break-in lube, as Lous' hand molding is very tight (he uses the gun, not a cast molding form in most cases). I use an FDA grade silicone spray lube, sprayed into the indent of a saucer and left about 30-4 min. until the carrier evaporates. The remaining "goop" is pure silicone lube, and can be finger-dabbed into the friction spots (backside of the cylinder, on this one, and a bit down the barrel/lug channels). It takes two-three days to break in a GOOD holster, and this one takes a day or so more due to the belt pressure added to the molding. There are several silicone garment waterproofing sprays out, and I use them on the body side of all my leather, IWB or OWB, that will be exposed to sweat. Keeps the salt out of the leather. This is just a couple of spray applications. All this, plus a little clear Kiwi and Lexol from time to time should make this a 20-year rig. Write down the date, and check with AC along about then. Yep, I saw the NEW 220 ST...an OLD M24 Lew Horton .44 kicked my P220 out of the cabinet, so I am now back full circle to all revolvers. And I like it :D

Congratulations.

Neat to have an idea come into reality. Nicely done.

You are appropriately proud.

Bruise,

I have a whole folder dedicated to the cave-dweller on my old site's. I deleted the studio site off the server, but left all the stuff in the tsimi folder. Most of it is posted somewhere in the Phantom thread :D . ... it comes in handy when I need to post something online somewhere.

I still have use of my URL for the next year or so (unless I get a cease and desist notice from my ex-partner) if anyone needs to post an image online.

Yep, add that to Dunlop's disease and a Hawaiian shirt one size too large and you could probably hide a square butt N frame. But I'll stick with my J's.

That's why I stuck with the J Frames, Rus...I'd need a full re-tread and a tail-out pup tent to hide an N Frame
