ok, all the talk about folders has my blood flowing for a new one...i have carried the kershaw blackout for years and even was given a second one by shotty.....(thanks again bro)....but after looking at the esee3f pics for a while now i have been itching to get a larger (beefier) folder.....My criteria would be large, locking, flat grind, pocket clip, and drop point...anything out there i am missing or am i gonna have to wait on the 3f....(still getting the 3 when it comes out...lol)

I really like the BM Dejavoo, smooth as silk operation and razor sharp.
I think the 740 is the large and 745 is the small devajoo ? Be a while and I dont follow BM that much

just wait that way when it does come out you'll still have some money left over to buy more of the ESEE Koolaid.

i have also been very happy with my spyderco sage, although it doesn't fit into your criteria of "bigger and beefier". for $80 its one hell of an edc folder though and i have yet to find a negative review.

I highly recommend the Ka-Bar MULE line. Great knives, and if your boat goes drifting they weigh enough you can just tie off on the knife and toss it in the lake. Also, they're fairly affordable. And Lockbacks are solid.

God bless,
Adam

I've been thinking of grabbing one of those myself. My Delica and Buck Vantage are nice, but I want something a little bigger. The RAT Model 1 is nice but I can't close it one handed, so it's been sitting on my shelf. The HEST Folder has been delayed again for god knows how long and I'm itching to upgrade my EDC folder, at least until the HEST or ESEE 3F comes along.

Is the Mule line made in Taiwan?

Just as mentioned above, you could go with any of the Spyderco "classics".
The Military if you want a large, superbly made folder. A Para-Military (1 or 2) if you want the smaller version, or the Manix 2, if you want a cheaper folder.
All these 3 are great.
The full sized Benchmade Dejavu and mini version are also nice folders. However, I found that the large version's liner lock has a rather flimsy feel to it. Both have a rather non-existent detent, though.

That new Spyderco Super Leaf looks like a beefy flat ground blade... short edge, but beefy.

If you haven't looked at the Rat-1 folder you need to put it on your list. It meets all your requirements and is one heck of a knife for the money.

These and the BM Dejavoo have held my interest the longest.

I have the Dejavoo. It has to be the smoothest opening folder I have ever used. The handle is nice, too. It has a very useful blade shape. I like mine a lot. I wouldn't classify it as a hard use folder, like the ZTs are, but for most knife tasks, it should be fine. It is one slick folder.

Not sure about the large but the Mini American Lawman by Cold Steel feels pretty good. It came in this afternoon and I am impressed with the tri-ad lock. I know its AUS8 Steel, but heck what's wrong with that?

I'd have to cast another vote for the Spyderco Manix2 if you're looking for a beefier folder. Nice strong lock, flicks open effortlessly, and feels great in the hand. The ergonomics of this blade are hard to find, it really feels like it was made for my hand. You might have to go after one of the sprint runs floating around to get a flat grind, but the production versions are still great knives
