I'm looking for a graphing calculator in good/excellent condition for my son's math class (6th grade, advanced math).

He's supposed to have the TI83 Plus. But I'm willing to go up to a better model, as long as it's basically the same thing (button-wise).

I'm sure we can find something to agree upon to trade for it.

Just a suggestion from someone who has dealt with these calculators before. A TI-83+ or 84 should get your son through high school just fine. The only time he would need to upgrade to an 86 or higher is if he goes to college for engineering or something similar.

You say that he is supposed to have a TI-83+. I would recommend that you get whatever the teachers have specified because they will be teaching the students how to use that particular model. The TI-83+ and TI-84 are essentially the same thing, so it would be fine too, but the TI-86 and TI-89 work quite a bit differently. If your son got one of those, he would have to figure out how to do many of the functions by himself, as most teachers will not teach anything but the recommended calculator.

I've used an 83+, 86 and 89 myself, so if you have any questions, please let me know, and I will be more than happy to help.

Ti-84 has calculus capabilities thus the teachers don't want him to have it...and probably won't let him use it on tests and so forth...

Huh, I had a TI36X...acyually I still have it...got me through all of high school, but then again I never had calculus or trig...

Never had one myself, all the ads say it is keystroke for keystroke, exactly the same as the 83+. It does have more memory and what they call "Preloaded Handheld Software Applications (Apps), including Cabri® Jr.", which may have the calculus capabilities you mentioned.

My teachers didn't let us use calculators in Calc I, II, III, Differential Equations, or Advanced Engineering Mathmatics, so it didn't matter what calculator we had.

I have a deal in place with Manifest to get the exact model my son's teacher requested (Ti-83 Plus).

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. BladeForums' members are the BEST! :)

I just found mine under my bed if that deal falls through for any reason. I hadn't posted because I thought it was gone forever. I guess it helps to look!
