When using the 50/50 mix for dipping a sheath does the mix boil up like you were throwing french frys into hot oil or am I to hot. I was about 300 degrees. the sheath came out fine but don't know about the mix boiling like that.

When I dip my sheaths in the hot wax,I want to see it boil up,That way I know it has penetrated deep and not just on the surface. My wax will usually be almost smoking when I dip the sheath in it..
Hope this helps..

The mix I use is all ala natural ingredients, but will still have a flash point. I only heat the mix to around 160% and heat the sheath to about the same, then dip once and hang to drip dry.

I just use Lexol NF. I heat the sheath in a 200deg, preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, dip the sheath in the Lexol NF for 5-7 seconds, stand it in the dishdrainer to dry. It leaves no greasy residue, I put a coat of Kiwi shoe wax as a final step.

I let it boil up but don't do like I did on my first one and leave it in so long that it deep fat fries.

Ok thanks for the replys.
The sheath came out great with no residue.
Deep fried sheath that ought to cure the leather ok.
Thanks again for the replys.
