In my never-ending quest to find good custom knives for under $200, I have come across Wayne Clark. His work seems to be no-frills tactical folders, and very nice looking. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with his work.

Hi Aaron,

I met Wayne at the Las Vegas Classic Knife Show in February. Seemed like a very nice individual. His knives, while predominately machine produced, are a very good value for the money. I thought enough of them to buy 10 of them. There are some different models on my web site.

Also, AG Russell had several of Wayne's knives on the cover of one of his recent catalog's.

If your looking for a custom knife under $200. Wayne is without a doubt your best bet. Ok, Wayne Clark and Dick Atkinson our of Florida.

Well, that's basically my list of under $200 folder makers

What do you mean by predominantly machine made? (CNC or something else)

One more question: Are there two lines of knives, the truly handmade and the semiproduction pieces? $200 seems indeed a very good deal.

Ralf and Aaron,

The knives $200 and under from Clark have frames and handles of Aluminum. I don't think I will surprise any one here by saying, you get what you pay for.

Aaron your quest for the $200 custom folder is nobel. However, I dont think you are being realistic.

I have had several customers in the past who had Champaign taste and a beer budget. Instead of saving for one good custom folder, they bought several at a lower price and were never happy with them.

So yes Ralf, $200 for custom folder is an awesome deal. Actually, finding a good one at $350 is a good deal. For the most part that is where you should expect to start. This range includes makers such as Carson, Crawford, DeVillers, Helton and Elishewitz. The knives from these makers in this price range are a deal.

Good hunting.
