Welsh Corgis...where on earth to find?

Since the members of this wonderful site seem to know everything there is to know about everything, I figured I would ask this here.
A lady friend is looking for a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. A 'fluffy' one, as she put it. Apparently there is a breed of this dog that has longer hair than the typical Corgis, and this is the one she is looking for. She said that because they are so fluffy they cannot be shown as show dogs. I know nothing about this subject. To me a good dog is a good dog. God makes a bunch of em everyday, and I dont see the point in paying hundreds of bucks a piece for one...but whatever.

She (meaning me in the drivers seat  ) is willing to drive six hours or so from here (Springdale, AR. NW Corner of the state) and a little longer is not a problem. She (not meaning me, because I think dogs should be free) Is willing to pay several hundred dollars, up to 600, IIRC.

I know. Iknow. I told her of all the cool toys that could be had for that amount, but she insists on a dog.

Help me out here, bastids. If I find a good one, there ought to be homemade eggrolls in it for me.
Do it for the eggrolls.
Thanks in advance,
Maurice

Hmmm, seems that a "fluffy" Welsh Corgi is just a regular dog and should be fixed and given away for free according to this result of a search I did on Google seeing as how they shouldn't be bred according to the upper crusts whoever they may be.
I looked because my cousin had a regular Welsh Corgi that he dearly loved, as any dog should be, and I had never heard of a fluffy one before.
They are delightful little dogs though and IIRC are of the working class again IIRC being sheepherders.:D

I'm with you Mo. We have a mixed Rat Terrier that we got as a rescue dog from Bartlesville Oklahoma, about 50 miles from where we live. Great little dog although he wasn't quite free, had to pay for the shots and for having him fixed which was only fair.
Here's a pic of "Ace" watching for his momma.;)

You can do a couple of things:

DO a web search for corgi breeders, or buy a dog magazine where corgi breeder advertise (sometimes in the classifieds in the back). There are also probably some corgi mail lists or forms.

Locate a series of breeders close to you.

Call and tell them you're looking for a "pet grade" corgi, with excellent temperment, that's "defective" and has the fluffy coat.

While waiting for one to become available, read up on health and temperment problems. The breeder should interview view about what you want and what you want to do with your dog. For instance do you want a couch potato or a frisbee catcher?

MAURICE just wants an eggroll! It's his friend who wants the genetically defective canine. :D

I think we should just ask the Queen, she seems to know about Corgis.

Ill see if i can get her on here. Thanks for the help guys. I hadnt thought about the dog magazines.

Howdy,

I checked the Dog Fancy 2004 annual, sadly they list no breeders in your area(or close by) that deal in Pembrokes.

Using Yvsa's link, they show a few Pembroke clubs in Texas http://www.pembrokecorgi.org/affiliateclubs.htm .

I'd write a few, and see if they know of anyone close by that breed them.

Another route is to try the newsgroup: rec.pets.dogs.breeds , you can get there through groups.google.com . I've found that group to be very good at helping people find the dogs they want.

If you decide to go the rescue route, petfinder.com is interesting.
