As you can see, our transfer went pretty smoothly, with just a few problems.

It's pretty late now, so Mike and I have decided to resume tomorrow. As of right now, the links section and the banner adds are temporarily offline, but they will be up and running again as soon as I can reinstall the software that manages those sections.

Big news though, we have regained our search and edit features, and the forums should load a hell of a lot faster now, so enjoy. More to follow when we have time.

I could tell already, this time of evening is a pain most of the time. Probably cause of who you were sharing the server with. This log-on was quick. Great job!

Thanks Mike and Spark,

This is a whole lot better.

Ooops... my preferences were reset though

For you speed junkies out there you can ping and do a trace route on our site. Pay close attention to the backbone we are now using. You will notice that, depending on where you are, we now have access to 7 backbones and most of our routing goes through UUNet or Sprintlink which are the fastest and most reliable in the world.

This server is so much better than the one on the Knifeforums.com. I now spend the majority of my time over here.

Let's not turn this thread into a "Bash on KnifeForums.com" festival guys, we appreciate the kinds words, but let's not do it at the expense of others.

I did not mean the post above to infer a comparison was between the lines. It is just I am a speed junkie myself and even on a 2 way cable modem the site had slooooowwwwwweeedddd down. Now it is the fastest server I yet to ping other than Media One which is my Cable ISP.

The Tracert is more important and if you guys who are "in the know" will recognize, we are routing through 7, not one, but pipes! The router chooses the fastes connection automatically. Some of you will come to us on our UUNet backbone and some will come through Sprint Link which are the 2 highest rated backbones.

Mike,

I did a traceroute over on my end, and to tell you the truth, it's one of the FASTEST connections I've seen in a while over here. At just 15 hops, and none exceeding 700ms, considering it's on the other side of the world, it's really amazing.

Keep up the good works!

Dan

The traceroute has you looking pretty good.

I'm a little spoiled though, if I see more than 30 ms in any hop, I consider it slower than I like. During the workweek, I see quite a few total time to connects over 100 ms in our diverse workstation/server connections through T1 and T3 lines. We kick off a message to our DBAs and systems administrators when total connection time (all hops) goes over 100 ms.

That's just my work world. You're looking real good in the knife connections internet world. Congrats again on speeding things up!

Wow! I have been very busy at work so this is the first time that I've tried out the new server. Before the upgrade, even with my cable modem, I would have to wait to read postings, but now they come up very fast.

Thanks to all who made it happen.

Axel

Wow, now this experience is alot more fun! Since I can't upgrade my modem, anybody out there got a spare cable modem they can lend me?:-) Then, I can experience the Forums even quicker!!!

Take care,
John Johnson
