I'm thinking about putting a new combo of "tools" on my multi-day ruck, the tools in consideration are a Busse assault shaker and a Pauls axe. I used to carry a Combat Recruit and a Steel Heart and the preformance of both has been outstanding thru the years, so there is no doubt about the quality of the two but I would like to hear yalls input on the "utility" angle of the Pauls axe. Does anybody own one? Have you used it? Does it take as good an edge as their knives? Does it come with a really good[read secure] sheath? Input, I desire Input.

If you post in the busse forum, you are going to get all "busse is awesome answers" but posting outside the Busse forum isnt going to get you as much info, there is always this problem when you want to get info on knives with a following.

Dean, i think they look the same as the grinds on the other knives, and since it's the same steel i would expect similar performance, but if i were you i would grab the swamp rat's version, i know alicia has already found these knives but what do you think?

In my Day pack i have a Busse battle Misstress (i used to carry a CS SRK, but the extra weight is just too much fun), a fire starter (these items may seem familier), i keep a folder in my pocket because i always do, a compass, emergency poncho, assorment of small LED flashlights and one incandecent, and what ever else i deam mission specific.

Thanks Lizard King for jumping right in there,I'm hoping somewhere there is reader that can put up some photos of "Pauls Axe" in use,a lot can be learned by looking at pics of the cut a blade makes. On another note, I noticed you mentioned LED type flashlights and I like them but havent bought one because I have'nt been able to find one that does not say "Made in China". Any input on that? guys,[ladies]?

From what I understand, for pure all-out unadulterated chopping power, the Steel Heart and Battle Mistress outperform the Paul's Axe. However, for smaller utility chopping, such as general camp chores that one often grabs a knife and starts chopping, it would be great. My brother has a small Gerber axe that he uses for making additional tent or tie-down pegs, fuzz sticks, and garden chores, and I'd imagine the PA would be great for that kind of use. Another advantage could be found in preparing large game, scraping hides for tanning, or as a draw-knife where the smaller edge would offer more precise control.

On the other hand, I have an Assault Shaker, and it's amazingly robust for its size. It's solid, sharp, and not large and unwieldly. It works so well that it's easy to get caught up using it for chores that often require more handle area to control. I used to beat up my Sebenza with all sorts of work activity, but I've switched to the AS for beater use. Don't get me wrong, I still EDC the `benza each and every day, all day. I'm less concerned with dropping the AS, or getting it dirty, gritty, muddy and grimey. The Sebenza I'd be concerned with getting it cleaned up. The AS, I run it under water and shake it off. Done.

Dean, the best combination of lighting power compact size and cheapness in the LED light market is the Photon Microlight II

But if you want to go all out you can get the Inova X5

and if you want to use regular batteries you should check out the acrlite flashlights.

here are the arc and the inova http://www.onestopknifeshop.com/store/led-flashlights.html

i guess 1stop doesnt carry the photon's, but you can find them just about anywhere, you should pay about $10 each, the brightest ones are the turquios and blue, followed closely by the white (of course you cant see blue light very well so white is better, btw white leds are really blue leds with modifying coatings) for seeing the most effiencent color is green, the red and the yellow ones will have the longest battery life.
