I have been reading some posts lately about how some people are just starting out and what they are getting as their first Beckers. So I am curious as to what everyone’s story is. What knife did you start out getting and how did it progress form there?

My first Becker was my BK2 and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way I think it’s a great representation of what the Becker name stands for. It’s an indestructible beast of a knife. I was first introduced to this when I was watching YouTube and was impressed with everything about it.

My Second knife was my BK14 the reason I chose this knife was I was looking for a smaller knife I could EDC and possibly use for hunting.

My last purchase was a BK9 I decided to go with the nine because of how great of a chopper it is and much of the time when I’m playing out in the woods that’s what I call upon my large knife for. Plus just look at the thing how could you now want one?

So what’s your story?

Here it be:

I bought a BK-14 down at Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

Then when I got back, I talked to my friend at Nature Reliance School, and he had a bK-2. I traded some old gear and stuff with him and got a bk-2 that the handles were broken. I sent it to Ka-Bar and they sent me a brand-new BK-2.

Then I had my vase accident. One of the coolest people ever saw it and felt sorry for me. They then ordered me a BK-11 thru amazon.

Well, my first and only Becker is a BK2. I got it because I wanted one of the"sharpend prybar" kinda knife. I was looking at the ESEE 5, but for about half the cost, and a amazon gift card a friend gave me, I decided to order a BK2. I got it a year or so ago, and it was nice. I carried it in m urban bail out kit, at work, in the car... But it was always more prybar to me, and I started realizing, that my priority for a knife is to cut things. Before I convexed my BK2, it just didn't compare, for me, to most of my other knives. So I stopped using it as much.

Then I con-vexed it and MAN! No comparison, I brought back the edge to be thinner and this thing can make fuzz sticks, almost as well as my Mora. Not really, but it gives it a run for it's money. I tend to like bushcraft style knives for the most part, but the BK2 has been finding itself on my belt when I go out more and more.

I'd like to get a BK11 and 9 down the road. Maybe the tweener BK16. But the BK2 does what I need it to for now.

I had recently received two custom fixed blades - one from Bill Akers and one from Andy Sharpe. Both of these are excellent camp knives. But I had to see what all the fuss was about with Beckers.

So, after thinking what I would use them for I ordered a BK7 and BK11. Thought a mid-size Becker would be just the ticket and the 11 with the bottle opener just spoke to me.

Am very pleased with both. You simply cannot beat them for the price.

Thanks Ethan and co.

Started out with the Magnum Camp about a decade ago. It's still my favorite. I love that "roach belly on steroids".

Then years later I obtained a Patrol Machete and BK7 Combat/Utility, then got a BK9HH Hog Hunter Bowie, which I have on my belt as I type this.

All mine are the Camillus versions. I don't have a KaBar one... yet.

Thanks for sharing guys, I love hearing what got you guys started! Keep em coming

Really I think if I went back in time to 1780, The only thing odd about this knife would be the black coating on the blade and the handle material.

I was in the mood for a new all around knife after 10 years with an old buck. Did some research for a bit and settled on my BK2, Used that for 6 months. Playing with it one day I idly reasoned that if it were designated a 2 then maybe there was a 1 or even a 3, A little more google-fu resulted in shocking discoveries and a long and wallet draining adventure.

I carried slipjoints or low end folders. Then i stumbled by pure dumb luck on the bk-11 and was DUMBFOUNDED by the thought of a knife, i could wear around my neck. The bk-11 was my first. Then the bk2, then bk9, then bk10 and 14, then bk5, then bk-7, bk-2 again, bk-2 again, bk-5, then bk-10 thanks to knife rights. I think ill go get another bk-2

That's actually not a new concept. It was common during the frontier days.

Ethan is that old :)

even older, iirc, the Finnish folk all did that. knife stays warm, and dry, and you know where it is.

My first was a BK2. I was so impressed, my first thoughts were, The man that made this thinks like me, or ehh, vise-versa. I like things that work well & are HD & built to last in the real world. Then came 2 BK11's, one for my daughter & one for my wife. Then came the BK7 & BK9 together, & i was lucky enough to get a Remora with each. I was so impressed with everything so far, i was past the point of no return. Then i layed eyes on the BK10. I was SO disappointed that it was no longer made. Then i went to the WNY Knife Gathering, where i met a slew of GREAT people, including the infamous Toooj. I bored him with my Remoras-but no individual sheath story. He felt sorry for me & sent me 2, what a great guy. So, while there, i also bought a BK11 & BK14 for myself, as well as a Ka-Bar WartHog fixed blade. Then the Becker Gods saw fit to find a few more hidden BK10's in a box in a warehouse somewhere (or somthin like that). They were going to be finished & sold to BecherHeads only. Well, that was all the motivation i needed to get my BeckerHead # (103). When it came to me, i was NOT disappointed at all. I am glad to have one. Then came the BK5, which also did NOT disappoint. Then came the BK withdrawls. Sooooooooooooo much time is going by & going soooooo sloooooowly, before the Tweeners (BK15, 16, 17, Brute, Patrol Machete, Machax) & other stuff come out.

So, in the meantime, i customized my BK2,7,9,11,14 & had some custom sheaths made for the 7 & 9, which i have been carrying all during hunting season. Apparently, the deer are smarter than me this year. The 7 & 9 have come in handy when pushing through the thick stuff. Most vines & thorns just yeild when i unsheath the Becker's, but for those that don't---well-it's not pretty for em & gets ugly as well. Jan 17th seems an eternity away. LOL :D

I wanted a small skeletonized handle knife, so I started off with the 13, then the 14, 2, 11, 7, 9, 10, 5, I had a couple doubles mixed in there too. So much for wanting just one :D

I had been looking at Beckers and a few others for quite some time. My kids knew I was digging them so they got me a BK11 for father's day a few years ago. Shortly after that, I got my BK2 at SMKW and so on.

Here's my BK11 in it's current form (I've used it w/ various wraps of paracord and rawhide, no wraps at all, and now micarta). I use this thing all the time...

Beckerhead #42

My story is a bit unusual in that ALL of my outdoor knives are Beckers, I haven't needed to go outside of BK&T to have my blade needs met.

I started spending more time outdoors a while ago and realized I needed a good outdoor knife. A friend told me about Beckers and I was hooked. Started with the BK2 and liked it, but didn't love it at first. Then I got a BK9 (with the BK13 Remora), and a BK11 for my daughter. Loved the 9 as a chopper, but realized I wanted a smaller blade, something between the 2 and the 13. Ended up with an Eskabar BK14 for myself as well.

After this, I discovered convex edging, inspired by the posts/videos on this forum. Ended up freehanding a wicked convex edge Fisk style with my Work Sharp sharpener. Now I'm totally in love with the BK2 and it's basically my EDC knife in my pack.

So my only outdoor knives (not counting some cheapo folders I have) are Beckers, or as we say in Maine Beckahs. :-D

I see a lot of folks with a BK2, a BK9, and a BK14 (or BK11). Definitely a combination that covers all the bases.....

Next on my list? I will get a Machax when Kabar releases them soon, and I'd love to get a BK5 Magnum. Also the tweeners are on my radar as well.

Great stories guys,

Clich-You cant go wrong with another 2 ever.

Twinstick- Don't feel bad I didn't see any deer this season either (we hunt just outside of Batavia almost in Pembroke) I can definitely seeing a 9 coming in handy when pushing some thick woods around there, those thorn apples are some bastards! and don't even get me started on the grape vine.

JWL-I'm definitely looking forward to Machax and and the 5 is on my need to get list as well as the tweeners.

Kahn- I really need to pick up an 11 one of these days, I love my 14 and would love to see how the 11 compares.

MWTIC- That's a damn fine looking collection, Love the micarta on that ten. It's such a nice looking knife.

Yeah those are the first set of micarta that I bought. After puttin a proper convex on the 10 it's a damn fine knife!!

Very nice, did you dye them? Love that chocolate color. I couldn't believe the difference putting a convex on my 2 made. Then I put one on my 14, and will eventually put one on my 9 sooner or later. A Convex and a Becker seem to have a love affair in my case.

Nope not dyed at all. Might be a little mineral oil on 'em but it's mostly from use.

There are only a couple of mine now that don't have a convex of some sort of them. My 77 and 5 coming to mind first, and maybe my 9, but the rest do for sure.
