A good maker said to me if I screwed with the buffalo I would get the horn. LOL
For the pic see the post by Blues.
I love this knife, so much I will not let anyone use it and I have used it every day since I got it. It was forged from a hay rake tine. The handle scales are buffalo horn. Great knife by a great guy. MaxTheKnife here on the forums and Max Burnett can be found at http://www.expage.com/maxtheknife

Thanks Blues

JM yep, it is a great handleing knife. Max you tricky bastid, having 2 places on the web. :) I have had this knife for only about a month now and still cannot get over how much I like useing it. This thing is a real pleasure to use. Anyone have anything that needs to be cut? :)

That is a real nice looking neck knife Max. The tines I have tested out to be 1070. Did you differential harden it? Just all kinds of questions. :)

Keep up the good work.

Yeah Ray, that's the way I'm doing most of my knives now. You can almost make out a quench line if you look close. Edge quench and full temper. Multiple tempers for the steel that needs it. I had no idea of the carbon content of the tines. I figgered it was either 1075 or 1095 but wasn't sure. I did several quench tests and finally decided oil quench was the best. The tines I have are 3/16" tines I got at a flea market and some from an old tine rake here at the farm. Lots of neck knives hiding in those old tines!

I picked up one of Ray's little forged knives at the ACKS this year. IIRC it is out of a hay rake tine and is in a old blacksmithy kinda motif. It gets put to use in the kitchen quite a bit. Unless you blue the little buggers you really gotta watch out for the rust spots. They pop up in minutes! Other than that they are easy to sharpen and take a wicked edge. Don't let your wife use them on a glass cutting board though, it takes a bunch of work to get the edge back afterwards...lol
