I've had a Sherline mill for a number of years and have been very pleased with it.

Pro's:
- well made; very precise
- small, light, easy to store when not being used
- will accept standard cutters with 3/8ths shanks
- strong variable speed dc motor
- parts & accessories are easy to find

Con's:
- definitely not a mill for heavy cuts
- no built in stops on x,y, & z axis (I've rigged up my own
- kind of pricy for it's size

I use mine primarily for slotting guards (in both brass & steel), and for equipment repairs. For the same $$ I could have bought a Chinese import or a used mill, but shop space was a major consideration. I've had no regrets. If mine quit tomorrow, I'd buy another one.

Hope this helps.

As for milling titanium, yes assuming you take light cuts.

If by "hard steel" you mean hardened steel, the answer is no -- but you wouldn't want to mill hardened steel on a big mill either.

If by "hard steel" you are referring to annealed steel, I do it all the time on alloys such as 440C, 154CM, 5160....etc.
