What about the WWIII?????

I just spoke to Robert (the handle maker), and he's going to come up with a project completion date. I know this project has been dragging a bit (my fault entirely). Just be sure of one thing: when we get our WWIIIs, they will definitely have been worth the wait. I'll fill everybody in on the exact progress this week, but I do know that many of the WWIIIs have been handled and finished.

I spoke to Robert (actually spoke to him while I was driving around with Blackdog), and he gave me a project completion date, pending natural or man made disasters, or other unforseen obstacles, of May 31. I know that's a bit far off, but I know it's worth the wait. He already has many of your khukuris finished, so I'm going to contact EdgeWorks to see if they'll do the knives in two separate batches. That way, we can get 1/2 of the knives out to their owners early. It'll basically be luck of the draw as to who gets theirs first, as Robert worked on blades with similar finishes to minimize costs and labor. After seeing one of Blackdog's coolest sheaths (kydex, of course), I am drooling at the mouth to get my WWIII. I hope it's one of the first (I'll be in line just like everybody else).

I still have plans to auction off the prototype when this project is done. I'm thinking of donating the money either to our new charity, Educate The Children, or else to bladeforums to help them keep our forum running. Any thoughts?

Hummmmm so depending on how the sheath maker wants to do things the WWIII's could be coming anything between now and 31 May. Guess I'll really need to start saving my pennies.

Any idea on the final cost yet???

Shrike: I'll know tomorrow or Thursday, when I get the first invoice from Robert. Everything else is a "known factor" so that last piece of the puzzle remains.

I just talked to Scott at Edgeworks, and he's ready to rock and roll on the sheaths. The first 6 blades are with UPS now and on the way here. My plan is to turn over the WWIIIs to Scott six at a time, along with ten or so of a variety of other non-WWIII blades to be done. That way, we can get the first batch of WWIIIs out to you all without waiting for the handle-meister to finish 20 or so.

So, I'd expect the first six lucky customers to be holding their WWIIIs sometime in the second half of March!

Whew . . . this was a long wait, but I hope it'l be worth it.

Craig, my son and I can hardly wait!
Will the shipment order be by lottery or order received? Thanks, Scott

It'll be by whatever number gets completed first. Robert is doing them in batches according to the "options" on the groups of blades. The first six look to have been bead blasted matte finished black handled khukuris (see the new post for the lucky six people).
