What about this Benchmade?

Personally, I would go with a Spyderco for that sort of knife first. That said, it is a Benchmade so the quality should be up to par. If you like it and can afford it, go ahead abd get it. But if I wanted a benchmade I would save up a bit longer and get a higher end model.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have much money but want a thumb stud opener from Benchmade. I'm thinking about the Cold steel knife too.

Those are just MSRP ( suggested retail) you can get much better prices by shopping around different dealers, especially online. One stop knife shop has good prices and supports the forums. Dicount knives also has rock bottom prices and had great service the one time that I dealt with them.

For that particular knife... its not a bad knife at all, but I have heard that the back spring in some would work out of place over time. You can get a spyderco in a very similar style and price that might be a little bit better.
I would also suggest you take a look at the benchmade griptillian. Axis locks are very reliable and will last a long time. 440C isn't one of the new designer steels on the market but its passed the test of time and performs very well.

Hi Francisp,

On a personal note I have been carrying the Benchmade model 813 Mini- TSEK in plain edge. These are not much more than the Ascent series you pictured (around $60 USD).

Basically these are Mini-AFCK's (model 812 now replaced by the AFCK II)with a different blade style. They come with the thumb stud, plus you get the G10 scales which many people prefer to the Zytel\FRN type scales. Also behind the G10 are SS scale liners, which help to stiffen the handle. These are Benchmade 'modified liner-locks' and not lock-backs like the Ascent series. Blades are of the drop point style and are (at least mine is)440C and not Gin 1 as the website states (I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what the real difference is between the two, sorry).

I have carried this knife for approximately two weeks and I must say I am impressed with the value and utility of it. I think these are just under the price of the Griptillians but are very similiar. I can highly reccomend this knife for a reasonably price EDC practical folder. The Griptillian is not a bad way to go either.

Those AFCK's look afordable. The black one looks great. I was thinking about one of those with a plain edge. What do you guys think? By the way your input has been REALLY helpful and I am REALLY thankful.

I love my 806, which might be more than you are looking to spend or bigger than what you want. The mini is ok, I have just heard some stories about bad locks on the minis. Having never played with one myself I do not know for sure.
