What angle when sharpening flat grind - e.g. Military?

Do I use the same technique to sharpen a Military when using a 203 sharpmaker, or is there a different method since it's a flat grind?

What technique were you using before? The fact that it's a flat grind makes no difference.

Stop when you get to bone.

David Rock,
For blades with two-sided bevel, I would alternate strokes against opposite stones - e.g. one stroke on left stone and one stoke on right stone.
But the Military only has grind edge on one side - just curious if I ought to use the same alternating technique?

Now, that's odd. All the Militaries I have seen have a double grind. Bob, what you are describing is a chisel grind. Anyone out there have a chisel ground Military besides Bob?

Could be that Bob's talking about the serrated Military, where the plain edge part has an edge bevel on just one side to keep the edge in line with the serrations.

I think the recommended procedure is 3 or 4 strokes on the beveled side to 1 stroke on the flat side. The stroke on the flat side is just to remove the burr.

Pardon my ignorance everyone, but when I stare at the blade edge - forward of the serration - of my military, I only see grind line (sharpened edge with an angle) on one side of the blade. I compared my 3rd generation against my 1st generation Military and both blades looked the same.
Do I make any sense?
Thanks for the previous replies.

I agree with cerulean. If you alternate back and forth on the two stones the serrations will become rounded. So do three to one on serrations and one to one on plain edges. And remember to clean your stones often.

Thanks for the responses! I used 3 strokes on the bevel edge and 1 stroke on the flat edge, and it works perfect.
cerulean, you're absolutely correct. I have a serrated model.
